if you could be the owner of gw what would you do differently?

I'd stop the high pressure sales tactics. Nothing pisses me off more than being harassed to buy this and that. What's even sadder is that I, the customer, often know more than the employee does when it comes to what they carry, or have carried. I would have them carry Forgeworld in store, and also would build at least two Forgeworld manufacture/distribution centers here in the US (one east coast, one west coast). Allow specialist games past and present to be played in the stores (i.e. Man 'o War, Space Hulk, etc.) I would have knowledgeable people on staff/hand when they are making new video games to ensure that the game meets the quality of 40k, be it the fluff or the game play, like the old Interplay slogan: By gamers, for gamers. I'd bring back three games days to the US.

Probably why i'd make a rubbish corperate employee.
I'd be all "Are you sure you wanna buy this?! It's crap, it's overpriced and it's ugly!", sure enough i'd be helpful too. I reckon that would actually be a nice twist.

Well, have one male staff member in mop boy outfit. The other could be a female staff member in something equally tasteful. :)

Only flaw in my logic is I'm assuming there are female staff members. And that either the males or females would be up to standards.

The flaw actually lays in the fact the female staff member wouldn't be able to do her job for an abundance of "over success" =P

Start buying out other companies ranges (molds) or licences, or even take them over, and sell on their stuff at GW stores (Dapol, Airfix, Matchbox etc) start WW2 wargaming alongside the fantasy stuff, with simple historical rules.
Tone down the weirdness of WFB to make it more like "Dark ages with some magic & monsters"
release a "dungeon quest" style game to the general public not just GW stores to get more people interested
For 40K total re write the rules and re make the figure range (true scale) - but make the rules "old model compatible" - more minis that you can play games with rather than minis to play games with.
Corporate wise I would get rid of all the american sales / success style, marketing / training ( I am not sure - but I think it is there) road to a sale, 10 point sales, etc and train staff to focus on the customer not the sale.

Going down the historical path would lose you money as the vast majority of historical gamers won't pay that much regardless of sculpting standards, paying for talent and not being able to charge enough to recoup costs that well is suicide for most business. You also can't copywright a historical figure which means it's ten times harder to corner the market (without creating a manopoly or cartel of course.)

Rules wise, if you tone down warhammer you get their LOTR system.

I would personaly work towards getting them off the stock market (profits pissed away to insurance companies for example) and use that eventualy freed up revenue towards improving the plastic production (lack of undercuts is what leaves metal and resin infinately better in quality than plastic at the moment.)
I would start up a bi monthly painting and sculpting mag with an attached dvd (this would also improve sales of tools etc)

As for scenery, I would look at creating model railway quality scenary that was robust enough for gaming (and hen have it manufactured in china as that would make it extremely competetive price wise)

Loads more ideas but they are for my own business :D
