guitar string tip

Quick tip on bending guitar strings. Those things are really hard to bend. I took a small torch and heated the string up till it glowed orange and let it cool. In metal working that's called annealing. The structure of the metal is now changed and it's much softer and thus easier to bend......................that's all folks! Hope it helps.:brushwave:

Great tip, thanks! I have used casted guitarstring just for this reason but I hate cleaning the mould line.

Just pull the inner core out, you are left with the part you are after then and it is extremely flexible.

some places even sell the wire wrapping without the wire core.

Pulling out the core!! What a simple solution.....GREAT! Were can you get the 'coreless' wire?

Don't think you can. The guitar string is often dependant on it's structure to produce the tone.
Cutting an oversized length then unwinding part of the "wrap" shoulkd allow you to get enough of a Handle to remove the core.

As an aside, something has come to my attention (Courtesy of Holmes on Homes) it seems as if most American and Canadian homes electrical wiring is single strand.
Is this correct?
Because the UK has multi strand and I've sometimes recommended using electrical wire (meaning UK wire) plaited to resemble Hair/Beards.
If it is single strand in "the colonies" then that wouldn't make sense to you lot over there. Sorry for the confusion.

These are great tips. Thank you! I'd been using jewelry style "bender pliers"... the kind with two cones as the business end, made for bending wire around a radius but I always struggled to get the angle right.

There is something I found at a party supply place.
In the toy/loot bag section they had something called Spring bracelets
Basically bracelets that look like guitar strings without the core. When cut they are aprox. 8 inches long.
You can thread small diameter solder as the core and you can bent the bracelet and it will holds its form.
At 99cents for 6, I bought a lifetime supply.

As for the stripping a guitar string, If you can not do the whole string cut a 6 inch section and then the wire can be pulled out.
