That portable wargaming table, just as well it's comedy, as it sure conjures up an overdose of geekyness. Like playing travel Space Hulk with epic scale models.
Oh, and French Loaf. For when an ikkle baguette just isn't enough. Er, for even more smoked bacon and cheese sandwiches that is, not a sizist sexual reference.

I'm still a bit bewildered as to why GW only sell 3 games in store. I've been thinking recently about the Combat Cards & wondering where my 2 sets are buried (Orcs/Gobbos & Dwarves). All the old sets rereleased as "classic", new sets for all the armies, an annual "collectors" 'Eavy Metal set showcasing their work (studio & personal), an annual GD Winners set featuring all the Demon & Sword winning entries from around the world, featured artist limited release sets that focus on a specific painter or sculptor (Blanche & Goodwin for eg), Forgeworld sets too, shoved in a counter standee & priced at 4.99 for a plastic box of glossy cards. I'd pick some up Travel versions of their games never occured to me! It's great Cheers, B.

It's the cost of holding stock in the stores for slow sellers (the smaller games also do not require people to spend as much) compared to the three main systems which create a higher profit.
If they cut a deal with a board games company they could make a fortune from a couple of the smaller games, not only through royalties but through new customers who haven't tried the mainstream games.

They've done that with Fantasy Flight Games. Some deal where FFG get to knock out the old board games, (Fury of Dracula/Talisman) and produce some using the GW IP like Chaos in the Old World.

Thanks Vike.I appreciate the cost issue of holding stock, fair enough. It doesn't show as much in the Leeds GW which is a tiny place, impossible to browse the lower blisters without getting a gamers bum in your face but in the Wakefield one, given the current default stock levels, the place looks barren
Always reminded of a conversation with a middle-aged woman at a party who mentioned noticing that GW had opened so popped in to see what they had & didn't understand how they could not have a game to sell her that she could play without having to glue together the pieces. Just seems a shame to have the space & not sell stuff from it. Talisman would have done the trick for her I reckon.I know about the licensed stuff Wyrmy but I know of more branches of GW in the region than I do shops that sell interesting board games :S I went to Leeds on Sunday & picked up Ghost Stories from Travelling Man, looks good, not played yet. But that was £40 yikes! Some of the games in bigger boxes are £70. Plus all the expansion sets. How much is Monopoly nowadays? Having a price point that's closer to £25 seems right for a family board game to me. Then, I did grow up in a house where we played 8 or 9 player Talisman (with a couple of expansions) after dinner into the small hours, age range roughly 10 through 50
I don't care if it's GW who stock this stuff I suppose. HMV, WHSmith, Sainsburys? Just seems a missed oppurtunity to have a retail frontage with Games in the name, on stepping in there is the bracing, refreshing realisation that it's not yet another bloody video game shop, followed by the crushing disapointment of discovering they only sell three games, that require a minimum investment of £45 (LotR starter?). It's weird

FFG's interpretation of WFRP could be even more shocking. It's a massive box, full of chits and cards instead of a character sheet and rulebook, the core before expansions goes for about £60. Our group opined one neccesary expansion would be a fold-out table, with all those chits and cards, it can't really be played without all sitting bolt upright at a big table.
I'm not so much hoping GW have a pick-up-and-play game in their stores, but do fancy them harking back to the old release schedule. That of the core games (WFB & 40K) redone every few years, with at least one supplementary game (man'o'war, necromunda, mordheim) coming out a year an all. Those games half-heartedly kept on life support by the Specialist Games branch, releases like those injected a shot of adreneline to the hobby.
I've the business acumen of a hummingbird, so GW's last few years of poor financial performance could just be an aspect of the global economy, although the niche hobby has always been regarded as more or less immune to that kinda thing - even so I reckon losing that release schedule in favour of focusing on the Lotr line even when the films are no longer promoting it ain't been a wise move, and them coming out with new editions of their supplementary games would be groovy for everyone. But what would I know, I am but a humble pigeon farmer. :silly!:
