How many are you painting at the moment?

Just curious - I used to be swamped by about 10-15 minis in progress. Now I've been working one at a time, but that seems inefficient to me.

How many do people typically paint at one time? This is assuming display models, not painting up 50-odd soldiers for some WW2 army or a squad of 10 Space Marines, etc...

Do you find it better to have a few projects on the go, or like to focus one at a time?

I'd be more productive if I could focus on one at a time...but it doesn't work that way.

Conservatively, I'll bet I got 30 WiP going on right now. Some have been WiP for years, some just a few days....

I'm usually pretty good about that. Actual, in-progress painting right now on my desk is 1. I have also just assembled a few other models, and got some others primed. I do have 5 Pygmie Bushwhackers for Trollbloods (Hordes) that are "near complete" but they got bumped since I don't play Hordes much, and really wanted to finish my Cryx.

I can usually deal with building a few and even getting them primed, but when I start actually laying down colors, I try to focus and not let myself be distracted.

I have dozens of wips, as a serious painter should have :tongue: But at the moment Im painting 1, and I hope to keep it this way until I have done all in the squad. So I can move on to the next thing, hopefully.

i only paint one at a time, otherwise i would be swamped in wip minis. sometimes but rarely i dismiss minis if i get tired of them though, they usually go directly to the "bin"...

I normally get sorted of bored after the assembly and puttying stage, so I always open new figs to keep me interested - I'll get around to painting the first prepped figs about, oh, 6 months down the road or so? I'm actually pretty good at the moment - 6 figs well on the way to completion (about 75% done), and another two that got prepped but are waiting on me finishing the base work first.

And I haven't even opened a new blister or boxed set for 3 weeks ... this is the start of a worrying trend ...

I got half a dozen Dark Sword mini's with various stages of paint, a gw demon, and a few seperate terrain features for a big sci-fi base camp.

At least, those are the things that'll continue to get more paint waved their way in the near future. There's a whole lot more I got, not so much bored by, but the interested impetus faded enough to let me get distracted enough to move away from them.

that is indeed the most "dangerous" stage when painting a mini, when youve just want in finished. i try to keep cool though, but the very last details tent to get passed by a little bit faster than the other....

I usually have two or three going in various stages just in case I'm getting fed up with the one I'm working on. Those are just my miniatures though. I currently have a few commissions in the queue as well. I'm trying to finish those up before mini-Drescher arrives in about 5 weeks

I tend to paint just the one at a time if i'm painting character models. If it's a squad then I will paint them all at the same time, saying that I don't tend to do more than 5 man squads as I find that I get really bored and "itchy" to be doing something new if it's anything like a 10 man squad. On the whole I finish each project before starting the next.

Assembling for a Warhammer Army: 40.

For some reason I breeze through assembly and preperation so quickly, but when it comes to laying down the acrylic I'm slow and a bit frightened of committing to a colour scheme.

I have 4 40k armies all in various stages of painting. Not one fully painted. I get bored and want to do something different.
I've decided to focus on just my Eldar and paint one squad or vehicle at a time. That seems to help a lot.

We recently had one of our U.S. Navy gamers have his entire Space Marine army stolen while out on deployment! So me and one other have worked on replacing his mini's and offered to paint them for him.
Alas, my Eldar have once again been put aside! Oh, well. The Sailor's previous army was not painted, so having a fully painted force is a bonus. But hey, I was in the Marine Corps and am always willing to help a serviceman in need.

Yeah I was in the marines as well, nice to see other vets on here.
Any way I do the same thing with having multiple armies going at once and with the hundreds of figures I own, I think I have 2 that are finished.....:skeleton:

I've got 16 that I've finished: 2 individual characters for D&D, 2 wolfs that were meant to be ranger pets, and 10 40k Orks that are destined for eBay.

I've got 16 minis that I'm working on now: the other 10 40k Orks in that squad, 5 Space Wolf snipers, and my dad's Abadon that I need to finish for him.

I've got ~18 more Orks that I need to paint as well as some other Ork stuff that escapes me at the moment.

Then there's the 10 Space Wolf Grey Hunters that I have to assemble and the 10 more on the way from eBay (maybe 20 if I can snipe this upcoming auction).

i find that having a few models on the go (and i'm talking abotu display models) really breaks up the monotony of painting one the whole time. I work on one until i get a little tired of paitning it. then move on to another. Then i come back to the previous one, and i have new eyes to look at it with and a new inspiration to paint it.
