Must hold back on acquisition of cheese jokes... Yeah the quality seems to be pretty dire for more modern times. The Dawn of War cinematics were better than this!

Maybe a bit of an extreme comparison here, but this movie is nine years old now and I dare say the graphics still kick Ultramarines ass pretty hard. Not entirely fair considering the time they spent on it but still, NINE years is a long time in computer animations.

A movie that in my opinion deserved much, much better than the critics gave it and it would probably have done a lot better if they didn't decide to let it take a free ride on a not completely relevant franchise.

when the story is as good as every abnett-book, i've read (have counted: 16 books), then the quality of the cgi is not very important to me.

I agree completely. as long as it shows that there was no intention of making the cgi awesome. if it isn't consistent. that's where the trouble starts. having a wonderful scene one moment followed by doodles the next can wreck any story...

Exactly.
I've just been to watch "Legend of the Guardians" and That is Superb CGI. It shows this up badly.

Despite a huge Fanboy base and such a massive potential as a sales tool it's not as good at the Warhammer Online trailer(s) with the Dark Elf Witch.

Bloody hell, forgot about the WAR animations. They were all fantastic. The opening cinematic is just awesome, shame they didn't follow suit...

This is what you get when you have a budget of $32.45 and hire a studio that is using a CG engine that is atleast 5-6 years old. The reason why the Dawn of War trailer look so cool because the game company will drop big bucks on the trailer and have a state of the art studio that use up to date cg engines.

This was never meant for mass market, just us fan boys.
I only hope that the story is good because of Dan Abnet.

Are people aware that codex pictures got NO FUNDING! at all from gw they wanted to make a 40k movie and have, hopefully with a decent story. And lets face it, no one else was going to pick up the franchise. So lets give it a chance poor cgi or no.

Just seen the second trailer. Must say the blood splatter effects look a bit cartoony for me. Hopefully the story will help to take the mind away from the lacklustre CGi.
On the website I saw this Quote "John Blanche, "For Space Marine collectors, it will be the pinnacle of what they feel inside. It’s going to move them."Unquote. Hopefully not move them to reach out for the remote to press Stop. I'm sure there will be lots of kids who will really enjoy this film, it's just a shame that the budget seems to be a bit on the low side. If it was done like Final Fantasy ( which I really liked BTW) it would be far more impressive.
I guess it came down to the fact that most of the people who will buy this film will do so whether the CGi was as it is or top notch, so why pay the extra to go the extra mile instead of making more profit.
