Hey Sleipnir, yeah sorry about the shield thing I have been caught up in my own stuff. I thought you were distracted with other projects and not to worried about the shield commission at the present time. I did have a little pratice doing some swirly patterns like I said I would though. I made a little pressmould to get the basic shape and played with the clay from there - came out fine. I have a new job now with 4 days a week off and am currently on holiday until the 19th november so i have some freetime. I'll do it upfront as practice for other shields I am doing and then you can okay it and we'll sort out the details from there if you definately want it. Anyway, I am itching to see your bust finished now!!!

I am a bid sad that there`s so less response to Barney :´(

Is there any reason for, maybe ppl are not inetrested in seeing / helping an average painter?

Do I have to add mor highlights to his robe?

Needs more pics to comment on =P So far i'm liking the direction you're going in, highlights are as far as they really need to be I think. I'd agree with Cheelfy on maybe shading it a little more in the recesses, not too much though. This is a badass bust, might need to look into getting one of these things!

Yes, it`s me - I am back! =)

Hey folks. Most of you may have mentioned that I was more or less dead in this forum. But I am back to continue my range of never-ending WIP`s. This time I am close to the finished mini - I am proud!

It`s the "Little Princess" from Runic Miniatures. I ve got her out of a box of some kind of mini exchange in germany. She`s sooo lovely and cute that I am painting it for my girlfriend. So be aware of bright colors.

First of all I ll show you a WIP with several views of the mini because I ve just taken 1 single shot at it`s current stage.

And here`s the actual progress:

There are several things I have to do, but I would like to get some feedback.

I am heading for a base in a "Candyland" to make this mini more girlfriend-like So you ll find some classic lollipops and sugarcanes when it`s done. Here`s a first picture of the sculptingtests:

hey Arne, nice lollipops! couldnt done them better :good:

the eyes are the best part of the mini, very cool. so is the little gem. do you have any kind of paint retarder? it would make it lots easier to paint very small things, so the paint doesnt dry before you hit the mini ;) solid work imo more contrast is needed all over the mini.

...i write you more tomorrow!

Hey Skelly, nice to read taht you re still alive!

I don`t use any retarder, but I have some. It`s a crappy one making my color milky. I should definitly buy a betetr one. Any suggestion?

The eyes... such a pain to paint them!! I m not sure if it`s visible on the photo, but I ve painted the eyes step by step like this:

- adding a black pupille
- adding blue iris around it, soften the line of the pupille
- clean the iris with the white of her eyes
- adding 1 white dot to each eye
- adding a thin layer of glazing varnish to make them shiny

Seems to me like this is the easiest way to paint those eyes. (It`s a 28mm mini)

I am not sure if my first sculpted lollipops will be used. Got another idea for.

Hi Sleipnir, with it being WIP it's a bit hard to comment without covering things that you already intend to do anyway :D Her eyes seem to be quite low on her face, with a fairly broad nose. Try shading the flesh under her eyes & to the sides of her nose to try & make her look pretty & cute rather than deformed. Drop some colour onto her lips. Push your final highlights a lot brighter on the pink & blue cloth (not vast swathes of the mini but if those pink ribbons are blowing in the breeze some sense of flashes of sunlight reflecting off would be nice). Frog eye has a touch of vertical black that could be yellowed out.

I like the eyes, it's the sculpt I'm unsure of! Toad works well. Gem on broach looks good.

Keep up the work & we'll see a completed mini out of you yet! And I'm sure as a gift it'll go down very well indeed :D

Cheers, B.

Ah, thanks for your reply!

I guess the hint on how to paint the face could be very useful for me!

yes, tehre are some vertical vlack lines in the frogs eyes. Thought I could give him a little bit more character. Easily removable ;)

Yep good advice from BPI. Her face (and the entire mini) are well done. Clean, neat work which is very important. All the work you've done on her eyes shows. Good expression there. But her face definitely needs more color. Lips are far too pale and could use a bit of red. And, as BPI said, some more shading around the eyes would do well. Careful though as it'd be easy to overdo. It will only take a bit of color mixed with your flesh tone to add some warmth or shadow. Too much and she'll look made up, which wouldn't fit on a child. Nice work so far, and the candy land base is a great idea that should work really well. :)

Another update - close to finish this work! I was workibng on the mini for about 10 weeks (first I ve touched ehr was 23rd March!). Now I feel like I have to come to an end. There are several other Minis I wanted to paint and "mother`s day" is coming (This pioece will be a present for my wife).

I know that I could do a betetr paintjob if I would afford some more time on it, but as mentoned above: I ll come to an end! I ve tried to regard the advices given to me, thats to BPI again! I m not sure if it`s visible but I ve painted the dress againc (from basecoat to highlights and abck to shadows again. I am very proud of myself when I am looking at the result of the pink parts of the dress! Smooth blendings, good highlights and a nice contrast. But I don`t like the 2nd try of the blue parts. Not sure what my problem is here but I am not able to get a nice blending. Maybe just more practice needed =)

All I ll do now is to work on the base. It will be some kind of candyland. The tree will get some more, thinner ´"arms" when it`s painted, covered with nice leafs all over to make him life. The fence is some variant of the sugar-candy-necklace you maybe know. It will be painted in pastel-colors.

I hope you like it so far!

Pictures are just some quick shots, but good enough I think.

Looking good Sleipnir, it'll be nice to see the candy hanging off that tree (I assume). As Skel said, that top one of the based shots really shows her off well :good:

Cheers, B.

Great contrast between the base and the model, it definitely creates an atmosphere.
+1 on how unjust the close-ups are compared to the whole piece pictures!

Some crappy pics of the base, not finished yet! There are some more colored washes needed for the stones, the fence accidently left the abse and the tree already has got some more, brighetr highlights.

There will be mroe small arms on the tree where i ll add leafs to give the tree volume and more life.

stay tuned and thx for comments so far!

I was really thinkingn of not painting the base when I ve saw the first pictures. But I doubt than I could be happy with a "unfinished" base at all. So I started to paint it.

Thank you. I`m not afraid of showing little mistakes or not überclean painted layers. All I want is to get a fair comment ;)
