As you may or may not know we added a small forum to our site, this got me thinking about something that has bugged me for a while now and i know it bugs a lot of others. I'm talking about dilution of our community.
I remember when i could sit at the cool mini forum and literally 'chat' with every body through forum posts, it was that busy. now we all sit at our monitors staring desperatley waiting for the next post.............which never seems to come :(
This is not a phenomonononomonm thats is isolated to here, all the sites seem to suffer from it, which in turn fuels my/our frustrations more.
now we sit not watching one but many......

AND THIS REALLY GRINDS MY GEARS in a sad way :(

Yes we added our new forum, and I'm very very chuffed with it, but the reason i'm really writing/venting this is to say THANK YOU CHERN ANN FOR MY FAVOURITE PLACE ON THE NET TO BE! i'm proud to be a supporter of your site and i urge more to do so.
i want my cmon back

Yeah, it's very true, this place has changed alot. As one of the long timers, it seems we've had our heyday here a few years back....but new faces come and go, I won't give up hope.

I've deffo noticed it slowing down over the past year or so. I too, am on and off the site unfortunately. I guess some people stick to certain forums too. I spend a lot of time reading the WIP threads rather than in General Discussion.

Though one thing I can recommend is subscribing to the forum via RSS (though this could also add to the dilution?), it means I see threads that interest me more often when I'm read going through the posts in the my feed!

Def a slow down, i lurked = from 2006, joined 2007 i think. This place is still THE best place for advice. I can post a mini and get good critque ( usualy THIN UR PAINTS lol) but the knowledge this forum/site has is amazing. Its a GREAT library and iwont leave. Thanks Chern Ann also.

Blimey I looked and started posting back in 2006... has it really been 5 years since I started posting pics here. Def. best library of mini images on the net and I am glad that I have contributed a few over the years to add to the collection. Some fantastic advice and articles that really help as well.
Looking back a what i was painting when I started here to what I can paint now ... that advancement is down to this site.

Big respect to CA for keeping this site going. Thanks

I've been thinking the same thing! I was off for a couple months as I was spending all my free time on college applications, but now that I'm back it seems the forums are a bit quiet.

Wonder if the whole recession thing caused a lot of it. More people doing less "fun" things as they were laid off, or just overall worried about things.

Course, now that I write that, it doesn't make a lot of sense as I'd expect people to run TO things that made them forget their woes. Maybe it's just the whole "less money" thing.

I'm still struggling to finish up a couple minis that have been in work for the last wow... almost two years. Not sure why.

Yeah well my access to Coolminiornot has been drastically castr.....I mean reduced thanks to works filter.

Can't believe I've been coming onto here since 2002, but yes there have been changes in the forum level of activity.
Some people have told me face to face why they have left, or reduced their activity on here and to be truthful I understand in part their reasons.

One point that has been made is that there isn't enough honest constructive criticism made in the forums (Discuss Submissions and Works in Progress). From my point of view I think that there is validity in that criticism and that is something that we as forums users should look towards addressing.

Thank you for contributing to the forums, everyone. One of the challenges many forums face is that "light" or "general" discussion has gone into decline due to social networks with more reach like Facebook. But forums are still a good place to go for specialist knowledge or the opinions of strangers who are less likely to simply pat you on the back.
