Need a good matte varnish

Hi

Sorry if this has been done to death in the past, but I would like to find a good matte varnish, something along
the lines of Testors Dullcote which I cannot use as I have an asthma sufferer in the house and the fumes/smell
of Testors and asthma do not mix well.

So can anybody recommend anything, I have been using Vallejo matte but this even when thinned still wants to
leave a satin type finish.

I was looking at the Daler Rowney Acrylic Matt varnish.

I use Daler Rowney Acrylic Matt varnish and am more than pleased with it. Just make sure you shake it thoroughly/vigorously before applying (I guess this applies to all varnishes). The one time I did not do so it came out a wee bit satiny, but a well-shaken second coat fixed that.

I also use the Daler Rowney Matt Acrylic and can say that is extremely matt and doesn't leave the slightest sheen at all. Good stuff!

Looks like I will be buying some Daler Rowney Matt Acrylic then.

Yesterday I mixed some Vallejo matte varnish with Vallejo matte medium and water - 1:1:2 and it came out quite well.

Are you talking about Brush on Testors or the spray kind?

I've admittedly very mild asthma and the Testors Spray has never affected me at all. And yes I've used it indoors.
Normally I find the spray is touch dry in minutes, but giving the mini's a blast outdoors in sunshine (rarity in the UK I know) and the 'liquorice like' odour is gone in moments.

oh yeah i have asthma (been hospitalised due to it in the past). tesors is fine, just spray outside and let it dry near an open window so the fumes go away. i use it inside all the time no probs so far, but it's better to err on the side of caution

Thanks for the info on the Testors, it was the paint on one I was going to use and have read that it requires the
smelly thinners and stuff.

That's a hard one for me to answer, but I know it must be dozens at least. I don't tend to coat very heavily, though, so that could be a factor. I will say that Dullcoat is worth whatever it ends up costing you. I do wish they'd produce it in a larger can, but the small can's are fairly cheap and I tend to buy 2 at a time when I resupply.

Hard to say, I got these cans four years ago.
Roughly 20-ish.

I usually buy a can of it everytime I visit the hobby store (I'm stocking up for the apocolypse)

I personally use Liquitex Matte Varnish. You can pick it up at Micheal's craft store or at Hobby Lobby. You might want to go to an art store such as Blick's and browse their varnishes
