Never. A LASER and a gun are not compatible terms. A gun is defined as a muzzle or breech loaded projectile firing weapon.

A LASER based weapon? The US Navy just tested one where they successfully ignited the engine of a target boat on fire in an impressive amount of time.

A bit more on the "Style" that might have attracted investment (or even) dare I say it popularity.

It not 'perfect' and not being an engineer or expert on re-entry physics parameters I can't say whether it (the deltawing module) would be viable.
But until we can get a cheap (weight and energy wise) powersource that allows controlled descent then we are stuck with the gravitational method and subsequent re-entry friction burn.
