GW changes to cheaper materials and puts up prices.

The real tragedy here is for their core customers - the gamers. Us painters can always move on to better, cheaper minis. But IIRC, GW doesn't allow substitutions. So if you want to play Fantasy or 40k, you have to pony up. Or sculpt your own, but that's not an option for most lol.

I think that it is much better that GW are moving in resin because then the models might get even better than they are and why do you guys care about the prices think about it a computer game could cost £40 and when you have finished playing that some people might just throw it to one side and never play with it again but then if you spent that much money on some models then you can get a few models and have a lot more time put into those models then you can spend even more time using them in games so why moan about the price if you like the hobby why do you care just enjoy what you do

Meh I disagree on that score. For instance, Bad Company 2 cost me about 30 quid, played that since release over a year ago. Models from the same era, spent only so long on and ended up flogging. Spending so much money on something so fleeting seems counter productive to me really, and way over the monetary value it should be.

Same situation for me.

It wouldn't be an issue if Warhammer was a squad based game, like Space Hulk.

But it's an army game, and even a measly 1000 points will cost you a couple hundred quid easy to field. That's 4 or 5 new games.

Stormraven? $65.
Dreadnaught? $40.
Character model? $15.
Tac squad? $30.
Termie squad? $50.

P.S. I have no idea if the above is a valid army, or what the points add up to. It's just for making my point.

Unfortunately even though the material may cost less, maybe the production itself costs more, hence the rise in price. We do not know atm, so until we have more info we ought not hiss and boo at GW m'thinks.

I'm not a fan boy, I just think that until we have more information we shouldn't jump to conclusions - we simply do not know what is the cause of the rise in price. There are pros and cons to most things, lets just wait and see how this plays out before we go all Emo (no disrespect intended) on GW.

Those prices I put up are for metal (commander) and plastic (everything else). Once this change takes place, it'll be even more lol

*edit* hell the switch from metal to plastic didn't bring prices down. Why would going to resin?

Probably, but I'm just saying that ya never know - it might actually cost them more to produce this style of cast /thing. Now TBS - get back to your Space Wolves! <3

Well if it brings more detail, to bring them in line with the kingdom death/scibors, I could see it. I think they'd be better off selling them like forgeworld though..higher prices and more prone to breakage won't play well with the gamers.

Going to plastic does require a massive investment of money to make a metal die, which is well into four figures to make. Now admitidly they last for years, but that cost will be passed on.

I'm not an expert by any extent, but large runs of resin requires a massive investment of QA in comparison to metal.

The change to plastic did actually lower the price of most models, the most obvious one I can think of is the Juggernaut where you got one bloodcrusher model in metal for £22 before and now that they're in plastic you get three for £33. That halved the price per model.

Solution is simple!!

Buy from Hasslefree, Wyrd, Heresy, Fenris, Artizan, Tengu, Avatars of War, Reaper, Iron Metals, Urban Mammoth, Dark Age, Studio Miniatures, Bronze Age, and any of the vast quantity of fine companies to choose from. Better quality, better products, better service, and better price.

Solved!
QTF.

they won't be getting any more of my money. shame on them
Ditto.

Dropped off the GW moneygrabbing roundabout.
Found better games at a much lower cost. For example Westwind's Secrets of the Third Reich, £25 for the books, Roughly £65 for a British Paratroop army.
Malifaux £30 for a set of figures and £10 for the cut down book, £5 for the fate cards.

Simples.

DR is MEERCAT from meercova!

Secrets of third riech looks sweet as does flames of war.

BUT i love playing 40k im just glad i have everything i need for my army.

Apparently the first run of resins are simply old sculpts cast using the existing moulds, so a reduced material price as well as reduced distribution costs due to reduced weight. any improvement in cast quality will simply be due to the material properties. The prices are going up between 5-20% on these items.

Looks like GW deciding to have facebook pages might be biting them on the arse as they appear to be struggling against the nerd rage when fighting on the nerds home front lol there are a LOT of negative posts appearing which can't be good for there public image in the slightest as it's not confined to forums but on there official pages.

On the bright side things are looking good for getting an independent gaming club set up we can all indulge in far more alternate gaming.
