tried it there airhead nothing on the search results, but have had the thing valued am awaiting the response and also got some feedback from gun nut sites in the us and canada the general concensus is the sights worth on its own $1200 about £750 in real money if the original mount had been with it you could probably add another £300.

I would just like to thank everyone for helping me out on this totally un artsi un mini topic. CHEERS ALL :)

If you will send it to me I can authenticate it. It is very tricky to do with photos, but if I hold it in my hands and compare it to mine I could easily tell.

How the hell do you just end up with a WWII Sniper scope? lol! Bit of the old Arthur Daily going on here! Odd to think the old enfield 303 is still one of the most accurate guns today though, so I wouldn't be surprised if it were worth a good few bob on top to a willing collector.

(I'll raise Tims score by another score, g'wan)

ED: In fact, might be worht PMing Wolf fang. He's well into WWII era kit.

Yes, there are many guns now more than a century old - not the designs, the actual guns - that could still hold their own for sniping (or hunting) within their effective range.

Thankfully certain models of SMLE are still more than affordable, cheap in fact - like less than a new .22 rifle! Prices are particularly modest if they have bad wood (which can be replaced inexpensively).

I'd love to just get one of those old guns just to see the faces when I rocked up to a hunting party. Dressing in period clothing to suit would be a bonus.

So, let me get this right, Cass. You bought an antique worth a good few bob to use on your crossbow? I'm imagining you to be the eccentric old man on the street everyone refers to as "The Colonel" from this day forth!
(Complete with clapped out old jeep on the front lawn you go and sit in to drink beer while wearing a steel helmet)

In fact, with that in mind, you're officially now my hero and aspiration in life.
