I like the paintjob, I think that his beard looks odd, and his face could have used more depth. The only thing that is hurting this minis score, in my eyes, is the snow on the mini itself. It is done well, but it may be too much. The base I love, the freehand on the barding/cloak looks ace. I like the metals, I think the shield could use a bit more of a highlight on the bronze. But the skintones on the rider are very nice, smooth. He certainly looks cold. I think this mini is a strong 7.5, and might be getting a higher score if the photographs were better. But that seems to happen a lot! No worries, you did a great job.

Thank you Chad! Well, the photographs I can work on - that's no big deal, the auction isn't going to kick off until noon Pacific anyway. Now the snow, you nailed what concerned me - that there was too much. I can take some canned air and blow off some excess. But if he does sell, shipping will knock some of it off too. I wanted to make sure I had a little extra on there so there wouldn't be any bare patches. ;)

The beard (and hair) is that stupid blue ink that won't stay put. I may delay the auction and keep working on that. More highlight on the shield is no problem at all I can knock that out quite easily. I could probably bump up the highlights on his face to give him a bit more depth. I don't think that will be too difficult.

lol! Thanks Freak! Well at least I managed to convey that! lol!

The good news is I managed to knock quite a bit of snow from his head and the horse's too. I highlighted the shield (Pigments do stand up to Matt's washing technique - surprised the heck out of me!

I redid his hair and highlighted his face as well. I had to delay the auction twice but I hope to get more photos and post them in my WIP thread for approval, plus take these down that are on the voting page. So we'll see how it goes.

Funny I was looking at this and thinking it looks cold as a scene but He doesn't look cold. His skin color looks the same as a warm climate warrior. (it could just be the lighting in photo though.) a face will keep more blood in it to keep a warm look but an arm would loose some of it's coloring. I'm not a good enough painter to tell you how or explain it much better. Maybe watch the movie Pathfinder, lots of vikings in snow and ice in the second half of the movie.

Well, I think it depends on a lot of things. I know a lot of times my hands turn red and chapped if I'm out in bitter cold and it's windy. I really haven't exposed my arms so I don't know about that one. lol! My face and nose will also turn red.

Although not as red as these photos portray, I did paint him with a little more color than I would have if he'd been a plain ole human. I figure the Storm King doesn't get cold. He controls the cold.

Anyway, I did fix him and I need to take these down. I'll probably go do that shortly as I want to link the next ones to my ebay auction. If you want to see new pics, I just posted them in my WIP thread.

I removed some of the snow, touched up the face and highlights, touched up the highlights on the shield, and a couple of other things. :D

Thanks guys I appreciate it! Although I did see the movie Pathfinder - I'm always leery of watching Hollywood for reference though because it always depends on how good the make-up artist and cameraman are. When I was looking for reference photos, I tried to find those of real people in the snow - usually by news crews covering the big snow storms awhile back.
