Marjedi - I have seen your Eldar Phantom Titan and can assure you that you are talented enough to enter - for sure!!! Shame it is an expensive business to get to one for people living outside the countires that hold the gamesdays thats all I can say. I don't see why Canada was cancelled and I am unsure why they cant arrange one for people in Sweden/Denmark/Norway/Finland area and one for Eastern Europe and Russia.

This thread is more like an index of entrants, many people on this list have a thread they have dedicated to showing off their progress towards an entry or practicing techniques in readiness to start an entry - these are the threads to watch. Kind of like the "journey" to Games Day for a big bunch of people. And it certainly will be interest to watch everyone get better throughout the course of the year. On a sidenote here, if you are running a blog or a thread on your progress towards GD I can put that alongside your name if you post the link in here.

For myself, I am keeping my entry secret, both should be good ideas and hopefully I can sculpt them to a high standard. However ideas is one thing, the skill to pull it off is another lol. My painting is my weakest area and nowhere near good enough to compete with some of the top people around. This is why to some extent I will be relying on my cool idea, my presentation of it and the sculpting to make up a little for the painting. I am not confident I can make up the huge gap inside of a year, I don't know, but you can drop in from time to time and follow my WIP thread in here to see how I'm getting on. Same for everyone else - post those thread links and I will get them up....

I read that you guys have a different set up for GD, sounds a little wierd to me and a lot of hassle!!!

Yep very different set up. We enter at a local store around a month before the finals. In my case it's an independant store (No GW in our Island state Tassie). Our store judges have talked GW into allowing the top 3 in each category an auto entry to the finals (That and a large number of demons going to the small number of painters down here). Other high placed minis can be sent to the regional finals in Victoria (there are five or six regions I think including New Zealand). The top three from there go through to the finals also.

This year GW are going back to a Gamesday event including the GD finals and I think you can roll up on the day and just enter or go through the process above. The thing is AU$10 of postage beats the hell out of a AU$600 air fare and accomodation on top of that. Let alone the close to $100 dollars to get into Gamesday.

I think it also ensures that you end up with really good quality minis on display at the finals. Though proabaly a much smaller number than you get at other gamesdays around the world. Mind you the number would be small and limited to mainly painters from Sydney if it was done otherwise.

I see, it will be pretty expensive for me also when you think about it. I will have to use three days holiday, one day I would lose double time from as well (I get 16 days holiday a year, so thats a lot!) coach would be around £30, ticket is £30, accomadation could be around £60 not sure. This is pretty much why I have waited to enter. I want a least a chance of getting through a round or two if I am spending all that time and effort on getting there lol! Pretty steep cost for a single day event where my main interest in the event itself will just be the competition! Thanks for the info on Oz GD Stew - and good luck!!

Thanks for the correction minimart, seems a little insane for GW not to run a games day in Canada, hardly fair for Canadian GW gamers. I will ammend....

most people would have to travel so much anyways, it is the toughest on those who are close to Toronto where they are used to having everything at the fingertips....;o)

From a long discussion with an Ex GW staffer it seems to be solely costs related, in that GW's expenditure on hiring venues, (inc staffing, insurance etc..) wasn't being matched by either sales of tickets or retail sales. I strongly suspect that the ceasement/compression of Atlanta, Chicago, Canada into the Baltimore GD is purely cost v profit driven.
The same thing happened with the UK Conflict tournements, they had to be profit driven and supposedly one didn't even meet the costs involved.
I get 16 days holiday a year, so thats a lot!
I thought that the legal minumum was 20 days, not including bank holidays?

Well my working "week" is actually 3 12 hour days so my holiday still works out as having 5 weeks a year off. Mind you having so much time off during the week is pretty much a holiday in itself lol.

Regarding the explanation about the Games Days I guess I knew that deep down its all about the money. I am not sure whether it should be cancelled on a lack of profits basis if they were at least covering all involved costs every year. Anyway, I thought these guys were running them for the love of the hobby!!! Oh hang on, I better travel back to the future, I see I have slipped through a gap in the time/space continium back to the early 80's.......
