Thanks everyone! CMoN party? I think the missus might have something to say about that!

Nice to be back in the Big Meks chair. Made the big shootas for the side gunners tonight. I know they're a little long and "twin linked" but I thought they'd look cooler like that. Here's the barrels, then glued in place in the fuselage and a show with the wings attached.

I never planned on showing the orks behind the guns - too much work. I'll be building doors that will somewhat cover the internals anyway. Now that I have the side guns done I'll be starting the skinning process. I'm still working on getting settled in the new house so time is a bit sparse yet. I'll pick at it here and there.

Later!

Ah no worries man, we're not difficult eaters, she can prepare any kind of snacks she wants. Su casa e mi casa. I myself am kinda curious to taste some fine local Minnesotan cuisine.

And the guns look cool mate. It's turning into the granddaddy of all gunships that even puts the AC-130's to shame...

I tell ya what.. Bring over some of that nice Belgian brew (your pick of top 5?) and I'll host a small CMoN gathering. ;) I'll treat ya to Minnesota cuisine but don't expect any of that Scandinavian lutefisk stuff. (I'd say crap but I don't want to possible offend any Scandinavians out there hehe)

Spooky gunship. Yeah, something like that. It would have been fun to run a line of 105mm kannons down each side :)

Why don't you mount those Twin-BigShootas on ball mounts?
Like they were designed to swifle(sp?) around instead of stationary

Anyway, nice work, been following you for a while now.

Finally crawling back to the bommer tonight. Spent a couple hours working on the base plating on the fuselage, nothing too spectacular or detailed, just plates. I wasn't too picky or worried of things didn't perfect here as I'll be going back over with detail plates and patchwork metals.

And since I haven't seen it all together in such a long time, the big parts all together.

As I get closer to wrapping up the main body I realize I have no idea how I'm going to integrate the wings in to the fuselage yet. Something to think about while I work on the cockpit canopy and topside turret gunner.

Wait a minute.... maybe no need to integrate the wings... use that huge pivot axle, emphasize it, and make that whole bomma VTOL. AC-130 meets Osprey! Boooyaaah!

Hmmm, give it the ability to hover/land like a Thunderhawk and let it carry more than stormboyz? That's an idea!

that'll teach me, not reading the crap I write :embarrassed:. hmm makes you wonder what it would take to repel an orc
They are derived from some sort of fungus, right? Maybe a fungicide like Lamisil? Surely they have some killer treatments for athlete's foot in the grim darkness of the far future that would work on an Ork? :rotfl:

To the screams of "It's not ORKY!!!" I'll be tracking my progress here for a little competition I'm having for our little Waaagh!Fest pub tournament in June. At the end of last years tourny, a number of us were hanging around with a beer discussing next years event. We came up with the idea to have an open competition to design and make a themed board. We'll be posting voting thingy for them at the end of May and let people vote for which one they like the best. The winning board will be the centerpiece board that gets placed in a mini-UFC fighting ring/dance floor at the bar where we have the event. This is where the top two players will have their last match (Fight -ON!)

I think there's about 6 or 7 people who are making boards already and of course I have to do one as well. My first thought was "ork mekyard" which is right up my alley. After seeing the current state of my real life though I decided I might not be able to finish it so I fell back to an Imperial Promethium (or something else liquidy and valuable...) pumping station that needs to be guarded and have air landing access to. This allowed me to use a couple of kits I've had sitting on my shelves for about a year. The original idea was to orkify these but I can always pick up a few more when I get to that.

Here was my original layout of big stuff to sort through for consideration.

I spent about an hour pushing things around, adding and removing, looking for fire lanes and defenses and came up with this... (the coloring is mine in PS)

board2.jpg

I've assembled the Bastion and the Skypad and they're primed, ready for airbrushing today. These will be done up pretty standard, just with a really nice paint job. Then I'll work on the pumping station part. I'm still not sure if I'll include the greyish colored pipes/pump thing (was a Monsters Inc toy/game thing) and there's going to me some trees and hills as well.

Spent some time with the Skyshield landing pad this weekend - that and my airbrush! Finally!

I primed both the Skyshield and the bastion black blocked out the main color areas with the air brush. The top side of the landing pad was airbrushed with two colors - Tamiya Nato Black XF-69 and the lighter Neutral Gray XF-53. The side shields and the rest of the platform were airbrushed with Knarloc Green.

board3.jpg

I went back to my military model;ing roots and dug out the dry brushes. The "metal" areas were dry brushes first with Codex Grey...

board4.jpg

Then it was gone over again with Fortress Grey.

board5.jpg

I will be doing metallic highlights to accentuate the wear and tear on the edges in some areas but only after I've done the rusting and grease stains.

THe green areas were then dry brushed with Camo Green.

board6.jpg

This give the edges a nice "pop" but the overall effect is a little too neon-ish and bright so I went over everything again with a dry brush of Rotting Flesh. This toned down the brighter green of the Camo Green and gives the right worn look for the green edges.

board7.jpg

Here's the overview with all the dry brushing done to bring out all the details.

board8.jpg

Of course, this isn't where it ends, it's merely the beginning. Now it's on to all the small details - and this thing really does have a lot of details, Lights, aquillas, skulls... There's a bunch of each. I started blocking out the hazard stripes sections and the aquillas on the main deck. I plan on doing the aquillas in three layers starting with Deneb Stone, then I'll do a smoothing layer of either Bleached Bone or Kommando Khaki, then an overcoat of Skull White.

board9.jpg

It'll take me a while to block out all the other colors so it'll be a few days before another update on this. Feels kinda nice to do something different. The bastion will get a similar treatment but with making it look like spray painted cement instead of metals.

Later!
