Foundry Canvas Paint Color?

Sorry gang but I need some quick help. I'm reading through some of Darren Latham's old posts here on his nmm - very fun and definitely informative. But these are kinda old back in 2009 so paint names have changed quite a bit.

There's one he describes as Foundry Canvas that for the life of me, I can't find an estimation of the color. In his post he says he uses it to add a bit of yellow to his mix. Dakkadakka doesn't have it in their paint chart, in fact every paint chart that I can find with this named doesn't have any type of color swatch at all, only text. Or they have color swatches but no names. I saw on another website where Foundry Canvas was listed as "white". Okay....

I've gathered that Foundry is either a defunct brand which has a devoted, almost cult-like following or it's a style/formula of mixing paint. I only scanned through the sites because the biggest thing I need is to get just a general idea of the color. With Darren saying he used it to add yellow to his mix and another listing it used in a "white" mix. I'm kinda wondering if its a white with a strong yellow cast. Kinda like the Reaper's Leather White that I have here. In the VMC world it might be similar to Off-White but I don't think it would be anything like Bleached Bone.

Anyway, since I have so much trouble locating it, that's just gotten me all the more curious. lol! If anyone can help out, or even correlate it to a current GW, Vallejo, Reaper, P3, (anything) color or post a swatch that's close, I'd really appreciate it. Or a website link would be great too! Thank you!!!!

Ah thank you Blood! :doh!: Good grief! I think the family dementia must be striking early! I did know about Wargames Foundry but completely forgot all about them. I saw Foundry and for some reason thought Foundation and couldn't get that out of my head. I remember trying to get info on their paint about 3 years ago and the vendor I was inquiring never responded so I just blew off the whole thing - outta site outta mind.

Definitely out of mind! *head-desk*

Thanks again Blood! At least ya stopped me from chasing my tail. :p

Rather than picking up a bottle I'd strongly recommend trying a few things you have on hand that you think would work about the same, see what the results are like firsthand. Very few paints are completely indispensable and if you have something right there that'll do the job (or can quickly mix an equivalent) then you can start now, rather than having to wait.

I think that is what Kathryn will do now that she has a picture of what the color looks like.

Yuppers! That's exactly why I wanted to get an idea of the color - so I can brew myself up some trouble over here. lol!

Thanks to Blood, I realized I already had those colors in another brand so I was good to go. And now I'm fiddling around with the paint mixtures...but...I think went just a tad overboard on the Canvas. It didn't add yellow, it went day-glo orange! lol!

Okay, definitely re-evaluating that mixture. lol!

Thanks Mike! After playing around with the mix a little, I am sorta scratching my head over it. Razza says Foundry Canvas mix in his tutorial to add some yellow to the combination he's got going. After Blood gave me the link, and I saw there were three colors, I'm assuming "mix" meant all three paints or some sort of combination. Of course you can get an endless variety mixing only two or using all three but I'm not seeing a lot of yellow there - tan yes, not yellow.

No biggie tho - thanks to the photos in the tutorial, I can see where he's going with it. So I just need to tweak the recipes a little and I'll figure it out. :D

I still can't believe I zoned on Wargames Foundry. Sheesh!

Are you sure he isn't just mixing in the canvas 8b to the other brand of paints? This one:

http://wargamesfoundry.com/paint_and_brushes/single_paint_pots/any/any/canvas_pp008b/

It seems odd he would mix the whole triad together, then add to the other brands. Which tutorial are you following?

EDIT: Think I found it.

"1. I started with a basecoat of calthan brown + snakebite leather + foundry canvas mix."
I think he just used the canvas 8b and mixed it with the two GW paints.

Good job finding that Blood - hehe! Yes, that's exact what I'm talking about and the word "mix" in "Foundry Canvas mix" is what made me think he was putting the whole thing together. I think you're right though and he just used the one. I have a similar color here - actually mines a little more potent on the yellow/orange, which is probably why mine went over the top. Like I said, I'm not overly concerned - I just need to make a couple of adjustments here and there to figure it out.

I didn't get very much work done yesterday...grrr! Well at least in regard to painting. I worked on business stuff. You know publications, promotional items...all that rot. I don't mind doing it, it needs to be done, but I need to clone myself like on that commercial.

Mom Clone #1 "The computer's down, where's IT mom?
Mom Clone #2 "She quit."

lol!

Almost all hobby paints are mixes (as opposed to single-pigment paints).

In this case the colour is surely a blend starting with white, with a little of an earth colour and maybe a dot of black.

Another thing to remember is that paints aren't colours - two things that look alike can actually mix quite differently sometimes.
