Pretty cool effect, that is one well camouflaged drow. So how many of these minis are you planning on taking to Reapercon? Methinks you've got a lot of work to do in the next couple of weeks.

Heh - the next three days you mean!!!

I have the dates on a count-down timer on my laptop. Unfortunately, I put in next week on the timer. My brain has stopped functioning the past few months. The convention starts on 17th! I leave here early Wed. morning to drive up there. At least I got the room reservations right. Holy hell I need to be shot and put out of my misery.

Well, in the past I've done my best work when under short deadline and the pressure's on. So let's see if I can do it again. Gotta juggle some things around and jump in. I'll post when I can come up for air. lol!

Alexandra - thank's hun! There are times when I literally have to force myself to get up and walk away for a minute or two. Every once in awhile, I get up and my muscles don't want to move at all. That's when I know I've definitely been sitting there for too long. lol!

Okay, gotta get to work!!!!

Just put 'Eye of the Tiger' on continuous repeat and you'll finish in no-time. Oh, and its effect also is more profound if you wear a sweatband around your forehead and wrists.
In future history, that song will be known as The Great Motivator, invented in the later half of the 20th century by North Korea's magical king to motivate his underlings into an obedient productive frenzy to complete the great works of humanity, such as the Burj Khalifa, Euro Disney, and the first Atlantic Orbital Elevator.

lol! Meph, actually you're not far from the truth. The music is not Eye of the Tiger (gads I got so burned out on that song back in the 80's) but its what I call my combat music. Many of the songs are the same ones I used to listen to when I'd go lift weights at the gym. Instead of a sweatband, the baseball cap goes on backwards - a habit I developed when I rode my motorcycle and I got my coffee along with these espresso "shots" that I can mix in with it - chocolate flavor! YUM!

Now it's not so much what do I want to take, it's what can I finish in time, that has the most promise of achieving a damn good paint job, and since I can't do a diorama, what has the best dynamic sculpt for single miniature.

*In my best TV announcer's voice*

Okay, Bob, lets meet our contestants for today...first up...She's got a whole bunch of attitude and knows what to do with it. She will fight tooth and nail until you are about ready to throw your hands up, but put her under the gun and you have something that surprises the hell out of you. Please welcome, your favorite and mine...Ashantyr!!!

Trivia: Who was the future action star who got his "break" doing the voice of Iron Giant? (No cheating and looking it up on Google!)

lol! Okay, okay, I'm chillin' on the caffeine. Honestly, I do need to be careful because too much caffeine makes my hand tremors worse.

lol! Thank you! I definitely will be careful. I'm planning on taking the laptop so hopefully I can post a few updates here and there.

Where in the hell did I put my list? Thank you for reminding me! I always forget my camera! Then I get stuck with the one on my phone and...well, we won't go there. ;)

Thank you 10! Improvements coming soon! I should be able to snap some more pics in a bit. :D

I'm going to give him one more shot and if he doesn't turn the corner, he's staying home.

The blue roan was done in pan pastels and the black on the hair, tail, and legs has browns, blues, purples and a little snow shadow highlight. So she's actually turning out okay for the most part. But it's that damn rug she's wearing that's driving me nuts.

I originally thought about doing a white tiger stripe pelt, like I did on the iron blaster but I was worried that it would be too monochromatic. But I'm really not liking the pelt. Blue Roans look fantastic in bright neon colors. Unfortunately, I think my glow in the dark stuff would be over the top with that. ;) Well, since I got it this nasty yellow color, I think I'll hit it with a good solid gray then I should be able to go back with white and not take forever getting good coverage and try the tiger stripes.

Anyway, any suggestions, thoughts, ideas are most welcome. I apologize for not having time to respond to everyone's posts. If I wasn't under the gun here, I'd definitely be driving y'all nuts. :D When I get home from ReaperCon, I promise to go through them! (After I wake up from the coma.)

The horsebody on the centaur is extremely nice, as usual!

The wolfdude is not really doing anything for me atm, but surprise me lol!

Thanks Mar! I got lucky and popped the hair detail on the wolf dude. But he's still being obstinate so it looks like it's time to kick him to the curb.

Got another victim....errr....mini for ya. heh!

Don't ya just love that Pepto Bismol pink color!!!! Do you guys even have that stuff in Denmark? Bismuth? No matter what it's called the pink coloring makes it absolutely distinctive, that's for sure.

Anyway, don't worry, the black is the base coat for the metallic pigments, the white is the base coat for the UV reactive. Unfortunately, the red isn't invisible in regular lighting like you see with the blue, so I'm working on camaflouge for it. :rotfl:

Woa, you're going nuts with the UV paint, aren't ya? :D
Good progress though, I'm curious to see where all of this is going.

lol! Heya Meph! Not completely nuts. The UV paint needs a white base coat and white reacts to black light because its so reflective. But in regular lighting, the UV paint is white - at least the blue stuff is, the red is another matter. Anyway, I need to be able to blend up to white so it doesn't look completely ridiculous in normal lighting. That's what I'm juggling right now and had planned to experiment with this week until my dates got turned around.

Basically, what y'all are seeing is a crash course in experimentation so to speak while I also work to get something - normal - that will be my regular entry. You know, the fail-safe. lol!

As it stands, the centaur is going to be my Painting entry for sure, no fancy UV paint or anything on her. The commission female mage I also want to enter - she may or may not have UV on the orb in her staff and the one in her hand. I really would like to get her in the comp just because I think it would be cool for my client too. Both of these are Reaper minis so might qualify for the Sophie comp but I have a feeling my piddly stuff will get blown out of the water.

I think Ashantyr will also be an entry. I scraped all of the thick paint off and am attacking the gold NMM again. Struggles with the NMM aside, I think she's one of my best works thus far and the steel NMM on the sword just took a huge jump in improvement. IF I can get the gold NMM right, she might be a contender in painting.

Last but not least is the dragon. If I can get him to work between the UV and the metallic dry pigments, it will definitely be an advancement in getting different mediums noticed in the hobby.

If you Google commission miniature painters, you get a kazillion hits. So what makes me different from all the others out there who can paint a good, quality product. I'm not the best painter out there, I haven't won a Slayer Sword, so what can draw customers to choose me over all the other painters? I'm hoping that will be innovation and use of a variety of mediums.

I have a lot of fun being innovative and pushing the envelope when it comes to using different mediums. Granted, things don't always work the way I planned. As Mythbusters say, "Failure is always an option." lol! If something doesn't work, it doesn't work. But the important thing is the hobby is no longer limited to just acrylics, oils or airbrushing. We've got dry pigments, metallic pigments, UV paints dies and pigments, the semi-precious stones incorporated not only into the base but the miniature itself...and I know there is a ton of stuff out there just waiting to be discovered. So being innovative is what I hope will help my business stand out from the rest.

Succeed or fail, one thing is certain, I gave it my best shot. :highfive:

I'm sure you'll be noticed. One thing for sure: you have some wacky experiments going there ( on the good sense ). :)
