Help with Necron Paint Scheme

Hello all,

I would like to paint up my Necrons and looking for some advice on what colors to use. I would like to try colors from both P3 and Vallejo to see which ones I like better. I have also read some good things about the metallics from Vallejo Air.

Anyway, I want to go with a rusted metallic paint scheme. Maybe use some pigments for the rust. What colors from P3 and Vallejo would you guys recommend?

Not very familiar with either paint line, any help would be appreciated.

Hello all,

Ok I think this is a little too open for immediate advise:- What is the overall look you ae going for NMM or high true metals?
For NMM Vallejo (my paint of choice) has a number of Grey colours with tones from Blue through Green.
Vallejo Airbrush metals will give the smoothest metal but it does need careful handling, You can start with VAC Mettalic Black (even drybrushing gives a soft metallic look), work highlights with VAC Steel and ultra highlights with VAC Chrome.

Anyway, I want to go with a rusted metallic paint scheme. Maybe use some pigments for the rust.
When you talk about Pigments I'm assuming that you mean stuff like MIG pigments. I haven't use MIG stuff perferring to scrape Chalk Pastels to get the colour/texture I want. Sometimes that can look a little too coarse for a miniature.
You may find that careful application of dilute paint to specific points may make a better rusted effect rather than pigments. My preference is VMC Burnt umber as the base VMC Mahogony brown as the mid coat and VMC Flat Earth or Orange Brown depending on how I want the wear effect to look. Rust that us rubbed frequently can look quite Orange-y in dry conditions.

I find that rubbing the chalk on medium sandpaper can help to prevent the problem where you end up with coarse lumps. It makes an awful mess, so I tend to put a piece of A4 on a tray, sandpaper on top, rub and then use the A4 to pour the dust into a little 3.5ml paint pot with lid :)

I've done painted on rust effects before using GW scorched brown and fiery orange and using a stippling brush over a drybrushed dark metal colour. But as said, it depends on the effect you're after.

Nothing too fancy, going to try and go for the GW paint scheme, but with P3 and Vallejo colors.

What Vallejo MC or GC would you guys recommend for a scheme like that?
