Nice article,for my black horses,i tend to start with black and work up with with dark blue grey,to an almost imperceptible almost white fine highlight,then i glaze it either brown or black washes,it gives a nice look and is another way of achieving a more realistic look,time spent blending the highlights i repaid in full in the final look,and it is hard to rush,but does look nice.

Hi kinjesus! Thank you! I'm glad you liked the article. And yes, starting black and working up to the highlight is also an effective method. When it comes to techniques there's really no right or wrong it's whatever works best for you. As I'm continuing the articles (I've got another posted on my website but had to set it aside to work on my GD entry so there's more coming), I'm concentrating more on color choice to help get realistic horses rather than technique. For example chestnuts do not have any black on them at all - so folks aren't going to want to use a black wash or glaze because then they'll will end up with a bay instead of chestnut.

Anyway, the articles are progressing but unfortunately the slip down the priority list every so often. ;) But I have been working on them. Anyway, thanks for the post!
