I've also been sculpting two 1/57 scale females: one static and one posed.
Today I sculpted the first layer of the standard 1/57 female (needs much tidying...):
...and again of the posed 1/57 female:
I'd have sculpted more of the latter but had an "armature malfunction"...
Here are my reference sketches for this pose:
The sketches were made from the book Art Models books. They feature a variety of poses captured from 4 angles (front, back and sides) and are accompanied by a CD with all poses (and more) covered in 360o. They've been really good for helping my understanding, but some of the poses are a little weird (or unfortunately obscured from angles by props...) and there could do with being more male references.

Nice sketch work ! Have you considered doing a study of body builders, obviously the muscles are exagerated but sow all the muscle groups and pull direction when there posing.

Cheers mate! Will definitely be making more referece sketches from the Art Models books I've bought. There are some beefy blokes pictured that would make good reference material. As you suggest I'll also look up some pic's online for some really exaggerated muscles.
The female reference material clearly appeals more but I know just how difficult it is to pull off a convincing female sculpt. Perhaps with that in mind I'd improve more if I made more females? I like the idea of a couple of female clowns: a harlequin type in a leotard and perhaps a Kingdom Death inspired female clown. We shall see - if I can't quite pull off a decent male sculpt I have no chance of a convincing female! We shall see, let's not run before we can walk!

If the subject matter is of more interest to you then is more likely to encourage you to do your best work ! Never forget to perserver and never be afraid to trim back a part your not happy with it and try again Happy Sculpting !
