Earthworm Jim

This fun little project is intended as a gift for my friends 30th birthday *. May I present to you my attempt at sculpting the legendary Earthworm Jim, in miniature!

* This will not be posted on the Mad Clown Facebook page til late October, so as to not ruin the surprise! *

I have made one mistake so far and that is not allowing enough excess wire below the ankles. I don't glue the armature to the cork and rely on the length of the excess to hold the armature in place while sculpting. I've added a copper wire 'staple' fitting to keep the plastic base anchored (you'll see this in my next WIP shot). In the mean time I hope that (once set) the feet will hold the thing in place.

Other than security the only problem this has posed is in the positioning of his right foot. You'll notice I've not been able to raise the heel off the floor, as in the reference sketch. A shame, but I'll attempt to work around it.

Gah, I know what you mean, I've done the same thing before too (making the wire too short to properly stab down into the cork). Makes it a real pita at times to get any pressure on the fig.

This should be a good one though, you're style should suit Jim well I think. :)

Thank you! I'm quite excited about this project. Quite pleased with todays progress so far.

More Jim and some torso work:

Have until mid October to get this done which is loads of time. It's also a motivator for me to get the finishing touches done to Sad Clown, Mad Clown and Bots MK I & II (ready for casting).

Thanks for the positive comments so far :)

Tonight I spent some more time building his torso and arms:

I'll have to cut back the pistol and move it slightly further along his hand.

You may notice that I've had to secure his feet as Jim's worked his way free of the cork!

looking very nice so far. will have to see more before I can critique more. The head is turning out to be spot on though.

Thanks! Any constructive criticism you do have fire away!

Last night I just spent a little time sculpting the straps in preparation for his backpack. Started work on the right hand too.

Looking awesome so far but something with more facial expression to capture the essence of jim is needed his head is perfect but he. Doesn't look like jim in action it's like you left the controller there and went to get a sandwich get his mouth open and throw some cows in there to (not his mouth) you can't have jim without launching a cow

Of all your sculpts, I like this one the most. Pure nostalgia here... ohh the good times. Waking up in the weekends at 5 am and going downstairs to watch tv.

Not posted here for ages and of all the things to bring me back, Earthworm Jim. Well played.
Are you planning to make Peter puppy or Psy-crow?

Thanks for all the positive comments!

I could be persuaded to make a Psycrow or Professor-Monkey-For-A-Head!

A bit more torso and arm work:

Depending on how his gun-hand-thumb turns out I may shift the guns centre pin upwards a little (hence the gun being made a little taller). It will all make sense eventually.

Tonights progress is probably hardly noticeable, but here goes.

Using left over GS I modified the shoulders, left thigh & started the left thumb:
