Basing Sand

A few years ago I bought a couple of bags of mixed basing sand from Lesleys Bits Box. Since then this has become my default basing material, it's a perfect mix of sand and rocks, which I've been unable to reproduce from any other manufacturer.

So now it's running out. . .

Has anyone any suggestions as an alternative (Lesleys Bits Box don't do this any more)? Preferably UK - based!

Cheers

Steve

Granddad!
get yourself some chinchilla dust (it's a fine sand) and a bag of cat litter, the small stoney kind not the paper based stuff from a pet shop and mix them together. It's quite a bit cheaper and will last you ten times longer
If you wanted to be really anal you could get (or make) yourself some assorted size sieves and grade your cat litter. I just got 3-4 aol spray can lids and drilled different size holes in each and stacked them together, largest at the top, and stored the various sizes in old chines take away tubs

Looks like the rocks and dirt you find outside near curbs mixed with some fine sand or model railroad ballast.

That's just 'sharp sand' (or 'washed sand', depending on which part of the country you're from). Just go to any builders merchant, B&Q etc and you'll be able to buy a lifetime supply of it for literally a couple of quid (20-25Kg bag). Just let it dry out for a while and it'll be exactly the same.
