After my toothy troubles, my Blood Maw was greenstuffed, and ready for painting...yay.
I sprayed it a light brown, let it dry overnight, and today started on the detail work.
Of course the first thing most people will start with is the mouth.
I used Elf Flesh and Gory Red, mixed in various shades to pick out all the lovely detail in that cavernous maw.
I ended with a deep red wash right down deep in the throat...quite a generous wash it was too.
Then I started on the otside, low-lighting and highlighting with two (as it turned out) perfectly matched colours, having a great time...achieving quite a nice effect.
When I noticed some red paint in the line where his head joins the body...!
I checked my brush.. positive I hadn't cross-contaminated, or used a dirty brush..nope, nothing there.
So I painted over it with a larger amount of the darker brown, and went on to do the arms.
The I noticed more red in the same join, and the little light above my head flickered into life...
The mouth wash (Ha!) was leaking out through the join!
In terms of disasters, this was pretty low down the scale, (which probably starts with: "My dog ate my mini" and includes such catchphrases as: "The arm came away, and the rest of the Confrontation Titan Dragon dropped to the floor" and "Oh, so denatured alcohol can dissolve resin... interesting")
But, if YOU have a Blood Maw, and decide to leave the mouth to last, and spend 7 1/2 weeks detailing the outer surfaces...having red paint ooze out and run down your model would be a bad thing.
So here you go, a gentle warning, that probably could apply to other minis as well, not that any come to mind right now.
