I'm a graphic designer/web developer and also teach both. Runebrush brought up a lot of good things. and I'd echo most of them.

A caution on Flash.
Flash should be used to display specific content with effect, not as a layout or publishing tool. I know there can be many reasons for using Flash - familiarity, cool factor, etc. If you don't already know how to build a site strictly in HTML/CSS you should learn. Support for Flash is dying except for very special content delivery venues. Games, interactive demos and the like. The iPhone/mobile movement is what is killing it. The industry knows it and most developers are moving away from Flash all together.

You state this on your About page: "Through it, I hope to share my passion of painting miniatures with the rest of the world, show casing my work for others to see." As mentioned earlier, reducing overall visibility to potential audience members by forcing the Flash issue isn't very "sharing". :) I would limit the Flash to the Gallery page alone and let html do the rest.

Design-wise : Runebrush was on with this as well. Using a limited color palette helps keep the focus on the models (the reason why people are visiting). I would drop the bouncing text blocks though. Distracting. I would bring color back to the other items on your homepage. As Runebrush mentioned, the CMoN logo is the first thing I see and what I want to focus on since it's so "different" from everything else on the page. Even adding the colors to the Facebook and Twitter links and not using a greyscale of your work bench will help balance this out. The workbench would command the most attention, the first in the information hierarchy. Very important.

The liberal use of white space (giving it that "clean" look is very good. Gives my eyes a bit of a resting place and enough space to move around comfortably.

Blog is good - simple and clean layout. The visual impact is attributable to the images (pretty paint jobs) instead of the textual content. No fancy font choices, super tricky effects or anything - let's me focus on the models. Usually a good thing.

Personally: Over all I like the design and layout, I would remove the Flash except for the Gallery page. Well done!

Hey man,

Thanks for taking the time to reply and comment about my site. It's all a big help in the learning curve. I agree with what you guys have written, especially about the HTML5, for me atm it's about time, money and ease, so although I will teach myself how to write in HTML5 for the time being I'm sticking with Flash as it's more convenient, like I said though I do see where you guys are coming from and i do agree.

I need to get round to editing a few things, but it's great to get feedback like this - good stuff, thanks again! :)
