Kingdom Death Kickstarter!

Not much to do about that. Even the zombicide box had a shipping cost of over $50 (so CMON effectively lost money on that), so even @ $45 it costs KD more to ship it to you than you pay.
And Adam looks conservative with costs and time, so $45 is not to loose much money and the shipping (2013 Nov) is to prevent extra delays (so a worst-case scenario).
-------

As for not knowing anything about the game... well it's KD, so I'd buy it for the minis only and if the game is good (looks that way from the video/comments/interview) it's an extra.
For now it looks like it could cost me more, than the RelicKnight KS, which is a LOT.
But I simply can't resist all those resin minis. The only one I'll pass so far is the resin phoenix (and likely the resin dragon).[/QUOTE

I've been slowly buying/building a small collection of KD models, and have been waiting for this kickstarter to start. Lack of finances meant I missed zombicide and reaper bones. Thus far the kickstarter has flown, the money is ridiculous, the pressure on Adam is getting immense. My only real issue it that the extra resin figures, which is what we as painters ratherthan gamers want, are still high. My pledge plus a couple of the.resin figures and shipping is over $250! I'm beginning to think this is going to drive me away and bide my time for the eBay scalpers to post up next Christmas.

well you're right,it will cost a bit. So far I'm at around $350 as I can pass some of them because I'm don't thrilled that much (resin phoenix, resin Adam-Anna) or because I already have them (Beyond the Wall for example).

I'd say to hold on the KS, later on Ebay it will cost a lot more with a lot less content (based on my Ebay experiences).
The 'fun' thing is, that originally I didn't want to back this KS, thinking I already have enough unbuild KD minis. Turned out that I don't have enough :D

I cant see the wauv either.

a few are ok, but most are run of the mill busty naked girls.

And the monsters are mostly ugly and offensive in nature.

I have a theory on this. In a simple way, they are the "old" ideal, they have actual curves, a softness, that many models lack now days. As many models are rather "slim" with large balloon like breasts that would be impossible (except for rare cases) with their BMI. So this "lushness" of curves is instantly appealing because it is different then what we always see.

well, i wouldn't consider what ive seen from the female figures in kingdom death to be realistically possible. barbie waist and oversized T&A (not to mention the odd hip/leg anatomy for bush viewing convenience) does not a woman make. i suppose people want bizarre soft-core mini porn with fugly monsters. i guess hentai tentacle fans overlap with the minis community more than i thought.

i shudder to think what the game play will be like: "OK, I'm going to **** **** her with my penis & boob monster for 2d6"

I laughed at that probably more than I should have.

My perspective of why they're nice is in relation mostly to the hobbyist side of things. The models are typically quite clean and that makes painting them a lot more rewarding. I couldn't tell you why others buy them though, I didn't even know KD was a game when I first saw it.( or maybe it wasn't.. ? ) I'm more inclined to paint them for my own practical experience. Selling them has crossed my mind as well. Pre-painted T&A seems to be a hot ticket item.

You don't understand why naked/half-naked women are popular? :p

I prefer my nakid ladiez irl, and not in miniature form.

And sexy clothed girls are far more intriguing and fun to paint. The Freebooters Fate line springs to mind.

to clarify (i don't want to come off as overly critical), the miniatures themselves are beautifully (!!!) sculpted, i just don't feel like i would enjoy painting or gaming with them.

Yeah, it's mostly a style and preferential thing. Some models are appealing to some while others are not, regardless of how well something is sculpted. I prefer more cartoony or plush models with character and attitude, that's my main draw to them. It's also why I dropped a heap of money on that chibi kickstarter. -_-

It's almost a blessing and a curse. There's so many KS' starting up and I love supporting them. But damn if it doesn't kill my funds! Relic Knights has a lot of nice figures, I'll definitely be buying some eventually.

I knoooow. I have not backed a kickstarter yet, although Werner Klocke got some money for his Freebooter stuff.

Spending 100$+ on a game that is an unknown quality has made me resist the urge sofar.

Do you think the pressure is a serious problem? I have been concerned about some of these Kickstarters that have ballooned far larger than expected, wondering if the people putting them out will be able to cope on such a scale. I'm ambivalent about how much I have pledged for this, but I find the miniatures intesting and unusual.

The monsters are certainly disturbing. That's part of what I find so interesting about them. Adam Poots seems to be doing a dark, allegorical game with more connection to symbolism as an artistic movement than to standard fantasy mini tropes.

They're clearly monsters, not simply adversarial creatures in a normal ecosystem. They are ugly, and weird, and repulsive, and that seems right for this game.

I think the pressure (at least in this case) is only going to affect his ability to get everything created and shipped on schedule. I pledged to a different kickstarter where it looks like the products are going to be delayed by a month or two because of all the orders and stretch goal extras that needed molds created and parts cast. Of course Adam has built in a lot of time for production. The delivery date he's listed is Nov 2013, almost a year away. So I think there is less of a risk that orders will be late.

I think the monsters in this kickstarter project are a lot less offensive than other stuff from Kingdom Death. I think the watcher is a pretty cool looking model that I would be very interested in painting as a display piece. The dragon and phoenix might be considered ugly... but they are monsters. The GW trolls are ugly but I wouldn't take that as a complaint. If you actually take a look at the minis from the kickstarter I don't see much of anything that would be offensive. If you go to the Kingdom Death website and look at their other figures then yes, some of the figures on there are offensive. But I really don't see anything currently offered in the kickstarter that is offensive.

To be honest I think 90+% of the backers including me are in for the beautifully sculpted and the game itself is an extra, that we may or may not use.
If you look at the KS minis (armor versions): while some do have the chainmail-bikini effect, but most are clothed pretty 'normally'.

i suppose people want bizarre soft-core mini porn with fugly monsters. i guess hentai tentacle fans overlap with the minis community more than i thought.
:D
but I still find that better than the accepted: blood and gore and genocide that other games have

i shudder to think what the game play will be like: "OK, I'm going to **** **** her with my penis & boob monster for 2d6"
first gameplay video is up, doesn't look like that. Actually looks quite interesting. More of an RPG/Settlement management, than a skirmish game or a board game. Quite unique.
