Lotta Vietnamese spam lately

This morning there are so far three Vietnamese-language apartment rental spam posts from new user vinalam138.

Obviously I've reported them all. But it seems like half the time when I've logged on in the last week there's been a new post, in Vietnamese, of a classified ad of some sort or another. The first one I found was for wholesale tea.

I also spotted a couple of random Vietnamese posts at the end of threads. Nothing to do with minis.

Chuc mot ngay moi vui ve hanh phuc
Hay cung nhau dong gop nhung bai viet that hay cho dien dan nay.
Cam on tat ca.

According to google translate:
"Have a nice day happy
Or together contribute posts that or this forum.
Thanks all."

Okay, clearly google translate needs to work on it's Vietnamese... but it does appear they are being very polite.

On a somewhat serious note, is there something we can do to help? Is clicking on that little "report post" (triangle with !) the most useful option?

It's what I've been doing.

... After running the post through Google Translate first* to make sure it isn't some slightly clueless Vietnamese minis painter missing the international board.

The mods do clean them up.

*'Cause I don't actually speak Vietnamese, I can only just recognize it.

I guess the mods don't want us to post on the new spam threads (see post #6 above)

But if you spot one embedded in someone else's discussion, like this one:

http://www.coolminiornot.com/forums...king-for-tips!&p=679153&viewfull=1#post679153

it's probably best to report it, because the mods might miss it and if they have it they can track down all that spammer's same posts.

Speaking of which, has anybody reported the Vietnamese spam in the middle of this thread? I'm just about to , anyway.

Maybe I'm trying to put too much logic behind this... but why are they posting here? This is, for the most part, an English language forum. There are probably only a handful of members who actually speak Vietnamese. Aside from being really annoying, what's the point?

The spambots aren't that concerned with target groups! :) There is a vulnerability right now on this forum that they use, they've cracked the kind of security measures we have here (like the captcha), and any forum using the same security measures might have similar problems. Probably it will go away with some update.

Its highly noticable that the spambots for "fullmalls.com" placing crud in the comments are hitting the highest scoring , or commented on miniatures in the galleries.
There were 26 of them awaiting approval (Haha) this morning.
There ain't any now!. :)
