You made me smile :). At least you can blame someone else. I blocked myself in this winter when my tractor died on the bridge with a foot or so of snow on the ground...blocking my only way to work :( the wife wouldn't let me blame her.

During the filming of The Africa Queen just about everyone in the cast came down with dysentery except Humphrey Bogart and John Huston, who subsisted on canned food and alcohol. Bogart explained: "All I ate was baked beans, canned asparagus and Scotch whisky. Whenever a fly bit Huston or me, it dropped dead."

So, ya know, just saying. Got a solution to your water problem.

Kinda.

I guess cleaning your brushes in whiskey doesn't work. Well, okay, it'd probably work, and make brushlicking more acceptable, but just ethically wrong to waste whiskey like that.

lol! Well, you know it wasn't YOUR fault, Krule. I'm sure the poster child for can't fix stupid over here was somehow responsible. You know nature abhors a vacuum. ;)

Water is finally back on as oh 8:30pm central time - but we have to boil it for the next 3 days. I'd make said redneck do it but he'd probably screw that up too.

At least minis have arrived!!!! Whoo hoo!

I almost forgot to mention the two dragons I picked up from a fellow CMONer.

It's still in the shrink wrap. I wanted one of these since I read the books back when Gutenberg printed them up. heehee! I almost don't want to open it but I'm seeing metallic pigments here!

And another fun one - haven't decided on him yet - paint or regular pigments...hrmmmm.....

And this is the mini I was waiting on. LOVE IT!!!

Do not ask me why I got this giant but it seemed like a good idea at the time. He might end up in a trade for new camera lol!

Now onto the painting....

Some of you probably remember I won a bronze at Reapercon 2012 with Ashantyr. Well, I knew I do better so I managed to snag another one. Here's where I'm at now.

Highlights are improving...I'm afraid to say anything 'cause I don't want to jinx it - but I might be getting a clue as to what Jen Haley was trying to teach me at Reapercon.

Here's UV dragon this side has UV paint.

This side doesn't.

Okay...I think that's everything?

PegaZus! You snuck in there on me! Well, uh, maybe I'll just let sleeping dogs lie. Luckily right before the water cut out - I topped of the paint water. lol!

cool stuff. really dig those historical knight models. 90mm feels big though! :)

Thanks Skel - sorry about the massive photos.

Like I said, I have no idea what I was thinking with that 90mm.

I'm definitely going to have to do something about the camera tho. The old laptop, I had it color calibrated to the screen - I have no idea how the color looks to you guys. But on my desktop it looks okay. This camera is so old, I can't even do RAW on it - only JPEG and MOV vids. It's a nice camera tho. Even though it's not a DSLR I can put it on manual and control anything and everything I want. Unfortunately, it's communication with the new laptop...well, the two are like Dennis the Menace and Mr. Wilson...you know things are going to go bad, it's just a matter of when.

And who went and screwed up Google+? Good grief talk about a nightmare just trying to get a Hangout going.

That's pigment? Wow! The back in particular looks very realistic with the shoulder blade highlights. And the mini looks pretty smooth with sharp details. :) very cool.

Agreed! Holy SH**! That's dry pigment?! Like weathering powder type pigment?! So how did you get a flesh tone of dry pigment? Who makes it?

Thanks Krule! Yeah, that's why I wanted to try flesh tones with this stuff. I have a couple of colors that work perfectly.

Here's layer 2

I've got her face done too but forgot to take pics. I'll do that tomorrow.

Hi Zab! Well...kinda like weathering pigments but you don't have to spend an arm and a leg. I use primarily Earthpigments. www.earthpigments.com

Here I've got a whole YouTube thing on painting with dry pigments.

I've got a series of about six videos that will walk you through the most of it. I'm hoping to finish up the metallic pigments by the end of the month but that will get you started. Earth Pigments are soooo much cheaper and great quality, as well as nontoxic. I'm pretty sure Secret Weapon gets at least some of their pigments from Earth Pigments. Anyway if you have any questions just let me know. :)

no need to, we got all the important parts ho ho ho

just watched the video you got there, seems pretty interesting working wih pigments, at least when you increase the scale of the minis a bit (54mm+)

:good:

Looking good Kath! :) Can't wait to see the final product!

Thank you William. I should have started with pigments first since I'm more comfortable with them.

haha! I can hear her now, "my eyes are up here, Skel, oh wait..."

If I use them on something very small then it would only be one thing - like a cloak or armor. The larger minis or monsters - I can paint the entire thing in pigments if I want to. As long as I keep the sealer light, there's no build up.

And it's still durable. My cat barfed on my metallic griffon wings and I didn't know it so it dried. YUK! But I was able to clean it off with just a damp paper towel without damaging the pigment.

Kath - you are the master of unconventional methods.

Also, your mention of Ashantyr has borne unexpected fruit..

hehe! Well...conventional is just so....conventional. You know the saying smile, it makes people wonder what you're up to...well, being unconventional keeps people on their toes (especially me!)

Ashantyr...huh? Where? (Looks around) As long as I don't step in it. ;)

Thanks so much for that! I love learning new techniques and working with new mediums. I learned how to do a damp brush tint kinda thing for make up or stubble on minis from working with water colours so i am always happy to learn about new ways to play with colour and how o adapt them to our hobby.

Any time Zab! Happy to help. I saw your blog - nice prizes in that last giveaway. ;)

I also hang out with a bunch of mini painters on Google+ and we compare notes on stuff, welcome to jump if ya like.

And if you run into a sticky wicket - let me know.

ETA: Wait a sec, Zab, I could have sworn you had a WIP thread going...didn't you? Okay, definitely reading waaaay too many posts. lol! No seriously, I thought ya had one.

Okay - supposed to be working on my book trailer vid right now but just got some great news. The big convention I'm going to in Vegas a week before Gencon is one of the biggest conferences for authors and readers around. The coordinator just emailed me and asked me to be a presenter for one of the workshops. I would be very happy to thank you very much! (In truth I was floored. I get to talk about...you guessed it...piracy. lol!)

Okay enough of that. Got more work done on the elf. At highlights and shadows...uh...she's a tanned elf. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
