I don't have a special place to hide my unfinished projects - they sit around my house, staring at me with accusing eyes. But that's OK, because I got so many other minis screaming for my attention. I couldn't do what Skel does when it comes to sticking with one mini. Of course, I couldn't do what Skel does when it comes to painting either.

Skellettets; Just been going back through this thread and I can understand some of your angst and misgivings over the judging.
But since Tommy Soule and I have judged GW Conflict painting competitions together can I run something past you.

Sometimes its obvious which figures are the ones to consider as "In The Running", but when you get 4 or 5 (or even more) good contenders it can boil down to having to look for errors/flaws to eliminate and leave a winner.
It's not the prefect way to have to do it, but for a first past the post system, it's sometimes what has to be employed. (Having said that the UK GD selection process in years past has left several people, myself included, with a bitter taste in their mouth)

Open Judging methodology, like Euro-Militaire, is a lot more rigourous and demanding, BUT the result is that you end up being judged against A STANDARD not a "locked viewpoint". (That doesn't mean that there are never complaints about the judging, I heard a few 'grumblers' last year and back in 2011 I picked up a Bronze which I'm still bloody surprised that I got and yet the same figure which had won Salute got nowt.)

Oh and I've been requested to judge a local store painting competition of Ax Faction figures, next weekend (7th Sept) so the results will be interesting. I'm going to try to catalogue my thoughts during the process and (without defaming anyone) try to do a thread about it. .......Wish Me Luck :curl-lip:

im with you there mike. i understand, when there are ceveral possible contenders you have to search flaws. the thing i became most disapointed about is this scenario:
lets say my squad was painted in "A" quality. but someway, judges think one of the minis in the squad is "B" quiality. then, i got axed. poof. and a squad where all is even "C" qualiy takes the demon. do anyone get this? cos i dont. and yeah, i did speake with the judges a lot, and this was the actual scenario.

buuut lets move on. not doing me any good bitching about this :)

really looking forward to euro, i dont mind it being a hard/impossible competition, as long as its fair.

hope for the best with judging then :)

A few years ago at GDUK I was talking to some chap who (at the same event) won a silver demon for a wfb single mini but did not even get a finalist place for a LOTR mini?
So if his painting skills can get a demon, how the hell can the other mini not even get through to the finals!?!

that i find not so unlikely though. especially at ukgd as its flooded with minis and they seems to pick finalist more or less at random.
