PM trystan because he has some experience with bones in terms of their prep and painting and I remember him saying you can paint directly on them plus I have heard that enamel sprays/ primers react with their material and make them all tacky :)

Yep just picked up a couple to "play" with from the Orcs Nest in London. Two figures = £5.....Hey GW take a hint!
Agreed. Let me just say I am not hate mongering here, more surprised. I went to check out GW's new sight. I love it! Very modern and clean and they brought back web exclusive minis as rewards for shopping with them - cool! The prices though? Holy crap! I haven't shopped with them for 3 years, so I had no idea. I feel as though all the complaints about their prices are actually justified. That makes me sad because I wanted to believe in them, they still make some great minis and paints. I'm just not sure they are being realistic about the value of those products when compared to what else is available out there :weep:

I don't know, If they can keep getting those prices then more power to them.

DR, what do you think of the Bones figs? They are a little floppier then what I was expecting.

I knew I could count on you! DR's probably asleep by now... Or brewing up a nice spot o' tea :)
At the time that was written I was giving it some serious ZZZZZ's
I didn't get home until after 10 last night so I haven't had any "play time" yet!
I did get a chance to look at the figures in the hotel on Friday evening and I have to admit that the detail is a little "soft" in places, but time a good brush and sheer bloody-mindedness on my part might sort that out.

So it actually took less time to prep plastic scouts than it did to prep on finecast Telion. 5 hrs vs 8 hrs. Here they are ready for priming:

Next to prep: 5 scouts with sniper rifles. BUT FIRST these came in the mail. I forgot I had ordered 2!

I got them because she looks just like The Lady Inquisitor when she's upset with me. Thought it might be fun to paint her up in mini form. Having two gives me an idea for a little giveaway contest. I usually host these on the Blog, but if it's not 40k related no one seems to take part :sidefrown: I know you guys appreciate fine minis though, so In the general discussion forum I'll be posting up a thread where by you put up a pic of yourself and your celebrity doppelganger. We'll accept pics until May 1st at which point we'll take a poll (if I can figure that out somehow) and the person with the most votes wins one of the ladies there. Sound good?

NO WAY! I am so in. I fell in love with that figure the moment I saw it a couple of months ago. I look forward to the contest my friend. This is going to be fun.
On another note. Great job with the mini prep. I can't tell what you did so that is definately a good thing :)

Well, got the sniper scouts prepped in about 5 hrs too. Small conversion on one scout was to cut away the rock under his foot and replace it with a genestealer skull. They are going to be from the battle for Macragge after all ;)

Also managed to prime Telion and the CC scouts on the weekend before the snow came back. All hail the hardcore painting glove!!! :mohawk:

I'll prime the rest on Friday and start the painting next week after I check in with the project paint guru John re colors.

Oh man I love the sniper scouts! I have a box in the garage but I am not sure if there any sniper rifles left in it :( What are you planning for the capes? I really would like some alternate heads for them. I loved the scout character in the Dawn of War II game.

Thanks! Well, I do have to follow the parameters of the project, but I suspect I will be given free reign on the capes and a few other details. These guys are part of the polar defense that happened in the later stage of the battle for Macragge so they will be on snowy bases, maybe with churned mud depending on what Mr. Justin ends up sending to the team. I am going to go with winter camo - not sure it if will be digital, organic or modern... I like Catachans for alt scout heads though really you can use bare space marine heads as they fit the scale quite nicely once you shave down their necks a bit.

Dremerl, Dremerl, Dremel, made out of wood or clay!

How handy is that little pistol-gripped Dremel? I've got a normal one, but except for applying battle damage to vehicles, it's rather useless for any other model work as the high minimum rpm just melts plastic and destroys resin... I've been pondering long whether or not to get the 'hobby' version.

I love it to death. It just sits there in the charger waiting to be used. The other one was a pain because i had to break out the box, plug it in, rifle around in the box for the right bits, ugh. The only problem I have now is that sometimes I go to grab it and The Lady Inquisitor has beaten me to it for one of her projects around the house :curse!:

That's never good Zab, my good lady does the same on occasions. The worse one is when she puts a tool somewhere safe and then can't find it !

Yeah I was yelling at her about that the other day and she said "You know how you asked me to warn you when you were turning into your father? It's right Now." ~sigh~ "Touche", said I.

Ouch! Right in the wedding vegetables!
Roll with it and think thrice before yelling. The war of the roses is best won with delicate but firm diplomacy, unwavering alpha-male decisions, and the occasional suckerpunch in the form of puppydog eyes or dashing smile with a naughty twinkle in the eye.
