Female Wood Elf Wardancer Sculpt

I finished this sculpt of an almost naked elf a few days ago and would like to have some feedback. http://www.coolminiornot.com/356745

Sometimes I have the feeling the better I get and the more accurate my work is the lower my ratings go :struggle:. Maybe I should have added some details here and there, some jewels or so, but I just felt she's a natural beauty and doesn't need to be pimped in that way. Sometimes the score itself means nothing as you don't know who it came from so I thought I'd ask for some feedback here.

What do you think about her?

Edit:New, better pictures http://www.coolminiornot.com/356953

Too heavy in the boobage are for my tastes.

Also the pose is not that wardancer-y.

The picture quality might also affect your rating, it is very difficult to see her face.

While I disagree on the boobs as I like em I do agree on the photos. The sculpt is good and definitely deserves a better score but you absolutely have to use something else other than your phone as stretched and sideways photos on the gallery are without doubt going to bring your score way down! Cheap eBay digital camera and a piece of black paper in a "scoop" behind the mini and bam easy add a point or so on to your score. I've voted an eight as that's what the score should be IMHO with better photos. Keep sculpting as I realy like what your doing.

The one thing that sticks out to me is that the boobs appear to be different sizes. Maybe it's just the picture -- hard to see 3D in 2D sometimes. Apart from that, I agree about the pictures -- a bit blurry and hard to see. Regardless, I think you are doing well with the sculpting.

I think you are right. I thought it was just an illusion caused by the diagonal belt of her shoulderpad but it seems her boobs really are not exactly same size. I took some new pictures. Still used my smartphone, but this time had a light source pointed to her, had a darker background and took the pictures from a different angle. Even though detais are still hard to see she looks better on them I think.

Actually I have a cheap digital camera, but it struggles taking pictures of these small minis. The autofocus does not work if I'm too close to the mini and when I move the camera too far away pictures become fuzzy again. It seems I need a better camera.

I think you are improving fast. :) Well done! Two tips. The pose is essential, make it as dynamic as possible when you do the armature it will stiffen anyway. Look up contrapposto if you haven't already. Secondly measure everything to see that stuff are reasonable symmetric. The eye is easy to fool. You can do it on a computer with these small sculpts, just measuring the image. Another way to spot asymmetry is to mirror a photo of the sculpt. Then everything really pops out. It's like looking on the mini for the first time. :) Good luck!

Thanks for your tips. Actually when I started this mini I wasn't sure what it will become. In the beginning I planned to do a female deamon, with doublehanded weapon, but while sculpting I changed my mind, that's why the pose is not really typical for a wardancer. I measure the armature to make sure the proportions are ok, but not everything. I usually do have a good eye for such things, but this mini is so small that I noticed some assymetry only by looking at pictures on my pc. If I look at the mini now I do see some room for improvement but I decided to leave her as she is because I was afraid to ruin everything.

I recently had some trouble with my eyes getting worse (it happens when you get older :hypnotized:) so it was hard do actually see the details I'm sculptin. I ordered new glasses today so I hope everything will get better with the next mini. We will see.

Great sculpt, good work!

For critique I feel like her legs are still too thin and chisled looking. Her chin is very round and soft and feminine. Love it! Her shoulders are very muscular and heavy. They look good and she is a swordswoman so they work... Then her legs are like 2% body fat, super cut, very very defined and her thighs are very thin. To my eye does not match either her soft, slightly chubby, young looking face or her brawny shoulders. I think one more smoother layer on her legs and you are there.

yeah, but...
the soft teenager face makes perfectly sense as she's an elf and elves might look like a teenager even if over 1000 years old. Her calfs are quite big while her thighs are thin. I noticed that but thought its better to leave it this way (actually I did add material to her thighs, but apparently I was too cautious.). First of all she's an elf and elves tend to be more slim than humans. And i was afraid when adding more material to her thighs it might look strange because her pelvis is quite small and then I would have to make that wider too which would cause new problems because her loincloth was already done and then she might have looked more like she-hulk than an elf ;) and so on...

After all I was so happy with the way she looked. She is by far the best mini I made up to now and gets high ratings even though I did not add any jewels and decoration.

But thanks for the input. I will bear it in mind when making the next minis.

I have to agree with Demi that the only place I think it needs improvement are the legs. They just look like a male marathon runners legs to me. If I recall correctly I think I've seen this issue with some of your other sculpts as well. Everything else is perfect tho. Also your score was an 8.7 recently, so maybe it will fluctuate.

Haaaa comments from guys .... Face it: boobs are never the same size. You want a natural look? Boobies different in size are natural. But please don't forget that boobs are filled with fat and mammary glands so they are squishy! (Unless you are a female bodybuilder)
If she wears a belt across the breast, the breast is squeezed. Let the belt carve in the flesh. Like a thong on soft hips.

Well, that was one of the reasons for me to leave it that way. Adding more material could have led to several problems: Shape not good any more; still differen size, but the other way around; boobs to big in general etc. so I decided it's best to leave the boobs as they are. Slightly different size is normal in real life.

I think for making good models you have to know when to stop. You can always try to improve every small issue, but you get to the point where it just doesn't get better any more. She is only 32mm tall. On the pictures you can see details and discuss that it could be improved, but looking at the real mini you can hardly notice any room for improvement. Even if you might be able to see some spots where you can tweak a bit (using spyglass or so) its still hard to do because even the smalles tool, the sharpest knife feels like a huge spade compared to the small mini and the coarse movement of my hands just wouldn't do as supposed.

Yeah, but... see above, take a spade in your hand and try to do it. The problem is that I usually form the body before covering it with clothes, so while forming the breasts I was not aware that later a belt might run that way. But good point anyway. Maybe I can consider it next time.

Makes me think of soft hips :in-love: Now I don't get this picture out of my head any more :D. Thank you! ;)

I shold do a mini with soft hips next ..wait I started it already :D
