Started the Achilles bust just put in the base coat and some rough highlite/shadows to get the light placement sorted got to pull in more midtone as he's looking a bit high contrast at the moment so plenty of glazing to go. Must say this large scale allows for a lot of smooth blending quite liking doing it at the moment and going a lot faster than I inticipated.

on the flip side I'm having to look at Brad "the pretty boy" Pit online pictures all the time to paint the damn thing. The bastard is older than I am and has all his hair and a stomach I've not had in twenty years .....Twat!!!!

I love his fatality move in this movie. Wish they had a mini of him slaying that big barbarian champion with a downward piercing sword strike to the neck.

Looking forward to his hair and armor.

Hey Andy I have a question what was the technique on the horns used was each line manuly painted on or was it lightly drybrushed (don't really look chalky at all if you did) over rushing what made those little lines so smoothe would you be able to fill me in .

Very light dry brushing placed carefully then lots of very thin washes to bring it together then some but not many manual lines to finish off.

Glad you finally started him. I'll be watching the progress closely.
Got to say Milosh it's a lovely sculpt and I'm very much enjoying it. Last night I started painting it about 7 o'clock and before I new it the wife was shouting down saying am I coming to bed its midnight! You know your enjoying it when you completely loose track of time.;)

He looks like Brad! The shadow in his mouth hole looks a little weird kind of like he is whistling or puckering. I like the colors and blends on his near shoulder

Young Minis makes some really nice busts, they're such a joy to paint. This one is looking really good, very nice skin tones.

I know you're still working, but here are a couple thoughts... first, did you use pure white for the eyes? At least in the pictures it looks really bright which gives it a slightly less realistic look. With the primary light source overhead the eyes would appear more like an off white so I'd try to dim them down a bit. Of course it could also just be the camera or all the black on the armor that's making them look brighter than they are. The second thing is the pose of his mouth, at least in the front view, looks a little strange to me. I took a look at the box art and noticed they widened the mouth a bit by extending the shadows to each side. It's not really a right/wrong sort of thing, just changes the look so up to you which way you want to go.

Anyway, all pretty minor nit picky things. As I said, it already looks really good.

Yeah Demi the shadow is weird it's because I gave the bottom of the face a dark wash to get the stubble effect and I haven't gone back and redone the mouth yet will do pronto.

Bailey considering how good your work is on this scale I'm honoured that you like it;). Yep did on off white but it wasn't as off as I'd like it's the Vallejo ivory which frankly is almost white. It definitely needs toning down I've just got to figure out an appropriate colour for the wash to bring it down any hints?

That's amazing clean prep work. The eyes look heavy at the mo, but sure you'll smooth them out... a good lump of greenstuff n u could vent your 'admiration' of poor ol' "Brad... Herald of Nurglies". Watchin Troy atm, itv2!

Hmmmm... I took a look at 10 Ball's bust SBS and he uses a 50/50 mix of VMC ivory and his basic skin tone. Of course if you're doing a wash you might want something a bit darker. I haven't used much VMC in a while, but I think something like Deck Tan might work. I use Reaper's Weathered Stone as the base for my eyes, but I think it's pretty close to VMC Deck Tan. If it's any help, I did a post on eyes over at my blog

By the way, I would keep that catch light you've got in the eyes a pure white. That can also help a little to make the rest of the eye dimmer by comparison.

On another topic, what are you planning to do with the armor? Will you be doing NMM with that or something different?

I'm a mere hobbyist I'm not a ten ball, an Andy g a skellete a baily or any one of the top painters on this site and more importantly the world. But there is a painter whom in my honest opinion is quite easily ahead of everybody. In my perspective this may or may not be true or not. This is my honest opinion but DRAGONSREACH is an amazing artist with an accomplished gallery and anybody who freelances for white dwarf magazine gets all my respect. My point is weather we agree or disagree with weather or not the colors are wrong nor right : but more importantly if DRAGONSREACH says there is a differing of opinion with the colors used then it def needs to be looked into and open for. Another avenue. After all that's the purpose if the w I p it's an opportunity to not just show off work , but to improve and everybody can improve. There is always room . My point is to be open to advice and not just shut it down but explored . Especially if its coming from a very outstanding and EXPERIENCED ARTIST as such. Cause REMEBER guys if someone has more than 10 years or more on others it's that fact that they've been doing something(including living life) much longer than others. It's this Alone that would make me want to entertain any of the criticism coming from such an "EXPERIENCED" artist. The first thing I did when I started my w I p was to show everybody how I get certain effects on things. I was quickly brought down to reality when DRAGONSREACH passed along a tip of advice. Then and only then I began a w I p of learning instead of just showing. In the end I have created a better and much more aesthetically pleasing model. Now all I do is wait for DR to give advice and from there I test it. IMHO his advice made me a better artist than I was. On a subject matter(orks) which up till then did not think could get any better . You know what?! THEY DID. Out of everybody he's who I would listen to first and foremost.

btw to me it's greatly done ... But again I'm no where near those artists including Andy g. These guys are pros. It's just that DR has a tone of experience might be worth it to have a look into it ;)

Your not wrong mate he was one of the very first people ever to comment on my work (teclis elf from GW) and the advice was sound. He and Milosh helped me though the beginning of learning how to paint and I will be forever grateful. The same for lee and Steff and John etcetera etcetera.

He comes across as a gruff northerner but that couldn't be further from the truth he's a nice helpful guy who bends over backwards to be accomadating and generous with both time and advice. Good on yah fella :good:
WTF?
You two been smoking something fresh out of Colorado?

I'm an Evil Warped and Twisted Git and Proud Of It, and I'm going to be proving that at Euro!
