Looks well natural, it's kinda bizarre you get a load of real stones and some real wood, paint it all white, just so you can paint it to look like real stones and wood, yup, what the heckaroo r u doing?!!

Ahhh yes Denny but the painted version looking real is 10xs better than the original real because of one tiny factor that the wee original dont have........EXTREME CONTRASTS!!! But yes very bizarre. Mr sionid very nice!

Yep it's one of the strangest things of this hobby is that we change something real in order to make it look "More Real".

The correct term for why unaltered stones, sand on bases looks wrong, is The Reflection Index, which against a painted miniature, which has a markedly different Index because of the paint, stands out like a sore thumb.
(Good grief I'm harking back to Photography Days and a class I gave about copying old photos for that info.)

TY DR. Hmmm, this sounds like a deep theoretical subject, must give it some thought... did someone say Chocolate cake!

Great info! Have to look the Reflection Index in the wikipedia next time I am alone with a cup of coffee.

Sionid, your base is looking very woodland. Can't wait to see the young lady on there.

DR, that's interesting! Certainly a better way of explaining when the fiance asks why I painted an already rusty metal surface to look like a rusty metal surface.

Dennis, thank you, I think it's getting there. The log could likely use some more variation stippled here and there, and I think I'll touch some lighter greens to the foliage.

Krule, thanks! Next forest base I do will have to be more ambitious. Like, with actual *standing trees.* The very thought.

Demi, I can't hardly wait either. The urge to start the next thing is strong but WILL BE AVOIDED. YES.

Started putting some Secret Weapon dry pigments on the base. I love them. Resisting the urge to put them on everything. Hopefully the little bit of warmth they add will suit Madame Troll once she's on the thing.

Additional tweaking will no doubt happen after she's actually on there.

I've also pushed her eyes a little brighter and started on some texture/pattern/whatever seems appropriate on the cloth. I'm starting to get antsy, so I'm cutting myself off tonight before I start doing dumb things and taking shortcuts.

That's some great paint Sionid. Love how soft she looks. The reverse freckles are perfect. Hair is very nice. Scarf, robe, and the green shirt are really, really great. So understated, but just pull you in. The eyes are creepy good. And then her flesh on her hands is kinda flat, kind of like a troll's might look. Way to thread technique, fantasy, and realism together. This is top-notch work!

Voted and commented. She looks lovely buddy. I can't really pick out any particular part because it's all so good but I do really like how smooth and you've managed to get the hair and fur

Guys I think we're just gonna burst the bubble. She won't say it so I will just to see how awkward we can all feel. Me sionid our buddy is of the OTHER GENDER. SIONID IS A FEMALE. Lol I made the same mistake darthmarsh call ing her buddy . Figured IDE just say it again to make everyone feel awkward .

Whoops! actually I do kind of use buddy, mate, dude, folks, guys, gentleman, ladies etc for both genders at work all the time. I love watching the momentary looks of confusion on the faces of a group of women when I say 'Gentleman what can I get you'
