Since it's March Madness time, I'm going to make a bold prediction and say Bailey is walking away with a check from a top 3 overall position.

Thanks, everyone! There are some really fantastic entries, so ending up in the top three would be a bit of madness... but you never know how the voting and judging will go.

I've taken a few photos of the other work and here are some of the pieces that (a) grabbed my attention and (b) the crappy cell phone pictures weren't too terrible. Obviously the work is better in person but I imagine the official voting photos should be pretty nice, so check back Saturday around noon (Chicago time).

I'm guessing the overall number one will go to this giant Daniel Craig space marine from (I believe) Yellow One. It's a huge piece, probably 150-200mm scale but the detailing is superb.

Another contender for top three is this diorama with figures from the Black Sailors kickstarter. It's hard to get a good picture from the way it's angled in the case, but the colors and detail work are fantastic. There's a whole other side with another figure too, but that's even harder to get a shot of. Definitely look for photos of this when they post the official ones.

GW's imperial knight sculpts have a lot of potential, and this entry has made a really cool samurai variation on it. They sculpted a new face plate and I think the banner is extra, but the rest looks like the normal kit. Really neat freehand and well done green NMM on the armor.

Those are just a few, but some of my favorite. There are also a bunch of entries from CMON regulars, but you can see better photos of the pieces on their WIP threads than what I can get with my camera phone. I sat in on some seminars, so I missed most of whatever came in this afternoon. And I'm guessing there will be some more tomorrow morning before the judging deadline.

For everyone from CMON who entered figures, best of luck!

Good luck Bailey. I just checked in after a day downtown with the family. Cannot wait to scope these out tomorrow when the viewing area opens back up.

Thanks, Krule. This is IMPORTANT! If you're planning to come by tomorrow and check out the figures, get there early. The display area opens at 10, but 10-1:30 is the time people are supposed to pick up their figures. If you get there late the cases might look a lot emptier! On the other hand, watching people pack up is a great way to see who painted what and meet some of the artists.

BloodASmedium and I will most likely be hanging around the cases in the morning too. I'll be there from 10-11:30, then I've got to run off to a seminar.

Everyone, you're probably already aware, but they've had issues with the Crystal Brush photos and perhaps some technical glitches too, so the voting gallery is still not up. There's a count down on the CMON's main page. If voting isn't open tonight, check back in the morning. Lots of great figures to see and great people from the CMON forums who would love the votes!

Congrats Bailey, I saw several of your pieces made the first cut. Hope you left dome extra room in your bag for the winnings! Is that Saxton a Pegaso model.

Thanks, Khonner! The 'cut', if that's what is was, seems really odd. Categories with 8+ entries down to only 2. Really? Why not put a 3rd or 4th in there and hand out a bronze? The pieces I saw are as good if not better than medal winners from the previous two years, so it's not like they don't deserve a chance. It's also a disservice to some sponsors. There were a bunch of Pegaso entries but only a couple made the gallery.

That being said, the pictures they did put up were beautifully done. And I really don't envy the judges with their side of the voting. I clicked a whole lot of 9's and 10's as I was going through the pieces.

I THOUGHT that I recognized that mounted knight.
And yeah, Yellow One's scratchbuilt and insanely painted Daniel Craig is going to take top honors, or else the fix is in.

I heard mutterings that sonething bad might've happened last night in the picture taking and editing process :/ which might explain why some categories have under three contenders. But that might just be rumor.

Maybe - they did take forever getting the pics up. But it was a lightly contested field in general. Not a lot of entries overall. Heck the sculpted category had ONE entry.

You know, the giant space marine is very cool no doubt, but he is by far not my favorite piece. Very technically solid though :)

Trystan, you're back! Thanks man, I finally finished it. That space marine and the Orc pirate diorama should be duking it out for first and second overall. Either one is deserving of top honors. Did you come by the show or were you just checking out the photos online?

I was there for a couple hours yesterday with Elly and a few of the other painters.
The one nice thing about CB is that it's like an hour from my house :D

Same here. I think I clicked on only two or three 8's. I guess that's the flip side of a 'First Cut' round.

But I'm glad they implemented a First Cut round. It reduced the time needed to do online voting, and it made the voting a pleasure rather than a chore.

I agree a lot with this. Amazing freehand, but... Well, there's something about it that simply fails to excite me. It doesn't give as much feel as some others.

Feel that way about a lot of his work. Technically very good but the freehand seems to be there 'just for the sake of it' rather than painting to create an atmospheric piece.
