CMON already deals with the problem. Each night they factor out the 1's. I've just been watching the same person come back each morning to snipe it again. Snipers happen, I'm just struck by this one's vendetta against this one piece. I've probably been paying more attention because I haven't had time this week to do any actual painting. Hopefully after next week I will finally get back to my work station and put some paint onto the Scale75 steampunk lady.

Digganob, no contest, just a regular piece in the gallery. There is a current contest at CMON, but I haven't noticed any sniping issues there. That last one, the Dark Age one, seemed to have a lot more problem with low voting.
Watcha Bailey sorry not been on this thread for a while.

First off congratulations on the win.

second lovely work there.

third snipers are a real problem on the gallery so much so that I don't bother posting on it any more nor will again that's what putty and paint is for. The forums however are excellent so I will keep up on that for sure. Also the sniper I am aware of is a registered voter in my case clearly Ive pissed off someone :)

Yeah, I sensed a little tension between the two of you. I had just assumed it was sexual tension, but I guess the sniping is another explanation.

Just wanted to give everyone a quick reminder that, if you haven't voted in the CMON Shades of Grey contest, there's only 12 hours left to cast your vote.

Only the registered votes are counted towards the contest ranking. Good luck everyone!

My two 10.0 votes put you over the top bro. Winner winner chicken dinner!!!! Very well done mini. Can't wait for the "real" base, though at 9.3 you may not want to change it.

Thanks! Although I think it's still too close to call on the results. They're supposed to post the official results later today. I think Corporea's piece (Through the Looking Glass) will be first, but then there's the Grey Marine, my Dark Elf Assassin, and Ritual that all have pretty similar scores. I believe the contest only counts the votes case during the past week (as opposed to the total score which is all the votes since the piece was posted to the gallery), so my Dark Elf could end up as 2nd or down at 4th (or lower if another piece surprises me).

Well, after watching one of the tutorials from Miniature Mentor I tried inks over metals a year or so ago, but it failed miserably. So technically this is my second time doing it, but the first successful attempt.

Ah, the classic love triangle!

Well, it looks like they just posted the final scores for the Shades of Grey contest and the Dark Elf took third! Lots of really well painted entries, so I've extremely pleased to be up in the top 3. Thank you to everyone who voted!

Congrats Bailey...now there is no excuse to finish his base :)

i was surprised at the overall low final scores on the great entries to the contest though.

Hey, congrats! Thought your assassin was killer. Definitely thought it'd break 9, though. Actually felt that way about a few entries.

Thanks, everyone! Yeah, the 'final score' on all the pieces seemed a bit lower than the actual gallery rating... but it's a contest so people tend to be a bit stingier with the ratings. It wasn't nearly as bad as the last Dark Age contest, those scores were 1 to 2 whole points lower than most of the pieces deserved. Overall I'm very pleased with the result and I'm glad about which piece won first place, really fantastic work. I do have a 'real' base for it, by the way. I'm about halfway through building it but just couldn't devote enough time to finish it for the contest. And now my focus has shifted to the Lady Mechanika figure, but eventually I will do the rest of base for the dark elf and repost him to the gallery.

As ever, David, you the man!!!

I am still really surprised that you've never used inks with your metallics. So you only use acrylics because they kill the shine and build contrast, correct? I still thought you used some inks on portions, so as to not kill the mid tones too much, etc...I know some artists, like SkelletetS pretty much only use inks. (See his 5th dimension tutorial on metallics).

Here is where I'll get even more technical. I believe it is Alfonso Giraldez who says how he does his metallics. I'll have to find this statement somewhere on his FB page, but he says that he uses acrylics around the mid tones, and inks in the shadows. He also uses pigments mixed with VMC Black Glaze or VMC White Glaze in the shadows. Wierd, huh? I'll try to find this statement.
