Those sets look pretty great. Hopefully I get my paints soon so I can try them out. Chicago's mail customs is notoriously slow though, who knows when it will arrive.

yes there are two blacks (not sure if two will be launched). one is lamp black and the other oxide black (using different pigments each)

I am not sure I have understand to which swatch you refer as off-white.
Top row 5th along.

i like the look of the sets, they will need different names asthey are very close if not the same as Scale 75 sets.

Forgive me is this has been asked but are you planning any metallics ?

Top row 5th (above yellows) is a very light yellow.
Metallics are under formulation and will be launched later on. We need to make the BEST metallics first.

I am open to suggestions for the names of the sets

O.K. this is just my honest opinion on the Poison Warpaints. I do have a few paints to compare them to:

First off, the Bottle:

I think Poison should change the name to something else, like Paints By Poison.
The "N" on the label is hard to tell its an "N".
I do like that the label on the bottle does not wrap around the whole bottle. It lets you see more of the actual paint in the bottle.
On my bottles only two of the child proof caps actually worked. The rest just came off when I unscrewed the bottles:

The nozzle orifice is about 1mm larger than most other dropper style bottles. This is a good thing to as there will be less clogs. That 1mm does make a difference.
The Nozzle itself pretty much just slides out of the bottle. This is bad. If it actually does clog up and you give it a hard squeeze its going to explode everywhere. Vallejo and Andrea bottles suffer from the same flaw. Reaper bottles have a snap fit and that's what I prefer.
The paint bottles were 15ml instead of the average 17ml.
The bottles were very full, no wondering if it was the actual amount.

The Paint:

The first thing I do when I get new paints is to drop an agitator into the bottles/pots. Personally I have found 3/0 fishing sinkers to be the best fit for every style. While I do this I put some paint on the top of the caps and put paint on my swatch board:

The paints came out of the bottle nice and smooth but a bit thick, but not so thick to be a bad thing.
All of the paints have the same consistency. This is a very good thing.

I took a piece of plasticard and primed it with three different colors and from different companies. The black was Vallejo surface primer, the grey was Testors grey primer and the white was Army Painter Matte white primer.
I then put 4 drops in the pallet and 8 drops of water for each color provided. The paints take to water very well. I then put some, with a paintbrush, in this order to each area:
Yellow 1, Yellow Green 2, Yellow Green 3, Green 3, Pink 2, Pink 3, Pink 4, Red 2, Orange 3, and Black 1.

From the same pallet with the same ratio of paint to water I used my Badger 105 airbrush and did the same thing in the same order.

Things I noticed from this test:
The paint does not like the Testors primer as it tried to shrink back and pool. It will work but takes some extra care.
Granted most of the colors are bright and if I was using them on an actual mini it would be primed white.
The paints take about 10 times longer to dry than other brands
The paints dried faster on the white than they did on the black or grey.
For only thinning with 2 to 1 they airbrushed very well.
No paint built up on the needle.
I had to hold the airbrush a bit farther back than I would have or it would spider. This was probably more to dilution than anything else.
Even after all that the paints stayed fresh in the pallet and didn't separate:

On Miniatures:

One coat with Yellow 1 over grey primer. Normally I would paint the area I wanted yellow with white first, but this is a test.

Afterwards I tried to scratch some paint off the two coated mini and it held fast.

The one on the left is with one coat, the one on the right is with two coats:

The paints seem to blend well with themselves:

Final thoughts:

Over all I have liked these paints except for the Black. It either needs more pigment or something. It was very transparent with a 2 to 1 ratio of water to paint.
I would only use these particular colors over white or a type of zenithal primed mini. These paint really love white.
They remind me of the old school games workshop paints a little. The ones that used to come in the P3 style pots.
I would like to see a type of heavy pigment or high density/foundation type of colors as well for easy basecoating.
I did not try mixing these paints with other brands yet. I will update if I do.
The paints clean up easy with dawn dish soap and water.

Great write up M. I thought I had a paint purchasing Addiction! I'm Even more interested to get my set now ;)

Im not to worried about the names of the sets, I can understand wanting a variety of paints for a set, marketing wise. They are what they are and that is what poison is all about.

Once I'm home I will have a deeper read of the thread. You can see so much on a phone screen.

wow Moelte! great paint collection there!
first of all thank you for all the troubles you went through for the testing and thank you for the honest opinions.

let me apologise for the set of bottles you have received. those are not the actual bottles. You are the ONE who received the white top caps which are not child friendly. i had 30 sets of bottles and got 31 orders. so those bottles were test bottles. the actual ones are much better and have a more luxurious feeling.

I will look into the black and see what I can do. At the moment I have two black recipes and I will test the other one against your comments to see if things are better.

So is there anything else I need to work on with the paints?
And also and most importantly: Shall they be launched?

Nice review moetle. Poison, can I check that you are planning on keeping the numeral system with the named sets?

yes the numeral system will be there. it will be something like the name of the paints (maybe along with a name: either 'Red 1' or 'Red 1 - Blood Red')

Great review Moetle.
i think you could be heading for a release but I think a little more testing first. The black seems it needs to be worked on and is there an issue with the paint not working so well with Testors primer ? Maybe Moetle can answer that.

some more comments on M's review:

I think Poison should change the name to something else, like Paints By Poison.
The "N" on the label is hard to tell its an "N".
I am not happy with the font myself either. I might use something different. Paints by Poison is not bad. Thank you

I do like that the label on the bottle does not wrap around the whole bottle. It lets you see more of the actual paint in the bottle.
The actual labels will be transparent and will not cover the whole bottle again.

Again you have received a set of bottles that are not the actual ones. Apologies again. The actual bottles have this problem rectified. They are like the reaper bottles.

Unfortunately it is not possible to make a paint compatible with all other paints and primers.
On the future releases there will be our own primer that will be again CHEAP and high quality.

oWW Clear labels is a good idea, on my paint rack its some times tricky seeing what colour is what, this will help a lot.

I am still following this thread and this is becoming more and more interesting.

I do not like the labels on sc75 for example. Mine got blurry/deleted letters after a few uses, the label wrap all around the bottle leaves you with a little space for actually seeing the colour or the inside contents, as Canny said. I can see future problems on this wrapping (sc75), because squeezing the bottle will mean further wrinkles on the bottle labels.

Clear labels looks like an awesome idea, even better for me if they do not cover the whole thing. On the other side I can see a reason for the label sticking on itself and maybe that is, to avoid curling off/out? endings of the label due to usage/ageing/ or high temperatures/humidity.

Poison "branding" can be looked as something doubledged. Since they are non toxic, but it puts poison there!
"Poison addicted" is the kind of double edged thing I am pointing to. "Bad boys" of the painting world if you understand what I mean. (Language shifts are difficult to explain if you are writing in a foreign language like I am doing :p)

Colour chart and naming system is looking fantastic for me now so keeping those as you said will be really useful for the less experienced painters like me. I spent a whole morning sorting the sc75 range into a logical order (at least for me) within my HZ wallhanger.

Good ideas Maenas!
for the colour chart, not that you have to do it but a colour wheel chart would be even awesome-er!
even some of the vallejo names get rubbed off after a while, if they are clear the print could be on the backside of the clear sticker so it would never be rubbed off!

It was no trouble at all. I really enjoyed testing them out. The way you are going about this, by going to painters for their ideas and opinions, is A+ in my book. I'd be more than happy to test some more.

I would wait for some more reviews before actually launching them though.

The only thing I would change, other than the Black, is maybe a bit more pigmentation. But if that is going to jack up the price I'd leave them be.

I forgot to add that the paints are completely odorless too.

I wouldn't mind seeing a fully balanced 12 color wheel set in the future, and a wash/ink set, metallics, and a glazing set. I know people can create all that but I enjoy consistency.

Looking forward to see what everyone else thinks.

I'm sorry lads but you are all skirting around the elephant in the room . I will address this major problem when I receive my set and I am quite a professional at this technical aspect and that is , how do they taste....?

Gah, I blink and literally missed the test!

Poison, are these still up for grabs? I'm really bogged down at work, so I probably wouldn't be able to make quite a comprehensive review, but I would definitely still like to take a look.

Yes they also should add a crisp flavour to the coffe/tea/whisky or whatever thing that you put along with the water for cleaning the brushes...xD
