HELLO everyone, i've lurked this amazing forum for some time, reading tips and techniques, and so today i've decided to try to do some layering.
i'm using GW colors and lahmian medium to dilute the paint in to a glaze.
my process is this one:
Black undercoat a dark skin color for base ( Bugman's Glow)
then a lighter color all over ( Cadian )
after that i make a wash/glaze with bugman and paint it in the recesses
then i start layering for the highlight, greating a glaze of Kislev Flash, i do 3 layers or so, then i add some white or pallid wych flesh, and so on, until a reach the desired color.
the results are not bed, ( i think) since is my first try, but i don't understand why the skin is all shiny and glossy.
i link a picture so it's easy to understand what i mean!

Thanks for the help, i really don't know what to do, and i don't like this effect at all:(
i was so happy about the layering results :( lol

PS: the model is of a friend of mine, so the fur and other details were made by him. i painted only the skin. http://imgur.com/a/J9lCP
PPS: i've started painting minis 2 weeks ago, so don't be cruel if i made a mistake :D

All of that shine is easily fixed by simply spraying the model with a matte varnish when you're done. Testors Dullcote is pretty much the universally accepted top product for this purpose. You can get it at just about any craft store.

Yep dulcote for the win. Winsor & Newton also works and vellejo matte you can brush on, but it rubs off easy if the mini is being handled a lot. Don't worry, no one here is cruel. Insane, unpredictable and wildly inappropriate maybe, but never cruel :)

Hi! As mentioned above these are many brush-on matte varnishes if you had the need to isolate particular areas in a matte finish. I am currently using Vallejo matte varnish, not my fave, but its whats on hand right now. Pretty much all the manufactures make one. And by the way, for two weeks in, your mini is looking good. Nice job:)

Wrong!

Yet another vote for Testors DullCoate, I use it I with almost religious zeal, once a model is complete.
BUT some paints do tend towards being glossy if they are not agitated enough before use.
A Question:- Do you decant onto a palette or use direct from the pot?
