oistene's WIP - a mostly dead space

Thanks Krule! I'm feeling that I am getting done with this guy now. I'm considering a little extra battle damage (there's plenty added to the sculpt, but the leather might need a bit more), but before that I'm going to take a deep breath and try to make a flame effect on his sword. I've never done anything like it, so... it feels more than a little scary, particularly as I'm pretty pleased with what I've done so far.

Yes:

The clue here is that this should look like living, moving flames, and not like a flame design. Doing a lot of holding my breath while I paint here. Okay, back to work.

Wish I was confident as you are! Okay, first glaze in, going for the next color now. Gotta wait for it to dry and it is killing me. :p

You know, we don't have one - my fiance's hair blower just died on her the other day. Instead, I fight the boredom by posting for every step. :p Progress:

The red got a bit fussy up on the point, hopefully I can straighten that out when I am done.

Two more colors, two to go! (probably)

I'm more confident now, but at the same time I regret making it so fuzzy to begin with. Hope I can clean all of that up...

Done! Some black smoothed out the edge between the flame and the metal, and removed all the pink fuzzy. All in all, I'm happy with this result - it got better than I feared.

Model needs some clean-up here and there, it is not much, maybe an hour of work. Going to feed the kids, then finish this guy off. So many projects, so little time.

looks fantastic, I'd personally add a few more hot spots where the yellow parts of the flame fork out. You'll make it look blazing hot

yep, in the yellow where it is hottest. The tips of the flames tend to go from red to black because they are "coolest"

Sorry for the lack of finished pics - I'll post that once I get them based and completely done. Once I was done with the sword, I was quite pleased with it, but once I let it rest for a few days I didn't like it after all. I've done the whole thing wrong, it looks like a painted flame, not a living one as I intended. So next time I try something like this I'll make lighting or apply glow to the whole blade. However, I'm keeping it as it is, since I am happy with my technique, just not how I used it, if you understand what I mean.

Either way, moving on. Rathor is really close to being done, got the mask and weapon to do and I need to see his skin in daylight. Probably done tomorrow:

Also, gotten a lot of progress on this guy, Shadris Arikim, his armour is pretty much done, so once the Rathor is done it is skin and hair time for him:

Got a lot done yesterdays, the two guys above are done, just need a final look-over today. No pictures, 'cause I'm mean like that.

Also got some stuff done on ugly here, for the Gods and Monsters contest:

.... I think it is a scar, he has lot of those. Got to check that. If it isn't a scar, it might become one now.
