tips for above average acrlic metals

Does anyone have any tips or links to tutorials with pictures for painting above average metals (specifically steal and gold)? I'm not out to win awards, it's just that I'm still not happy with my metals as I am with the rest of my colors. Here's two examples:

I have acrlyics (Army Painter and Coat d' Arms). I guess what I'm struggling with is knowing where to highlight and shade (and to what degree). I don't find it as obvious when painting non-metallics.

For tutorials, check out tutofig. It's a compilation site for tutorials from all over the web, so always a good place to start. Here's a link to all of their true metallic tutorials

Other than that, I'd suggest checking out Scale75's Metal 'n Alchemy paint sets. Easily the best acrylic metallic paints I've seen. Their US site is scalegames.com. Right now you can only get the metallic paints as part of sets, but in their last flyer they said they were going to start selling them individually. So check for that in the next month or two if you don't want to invest in the whole set. You may also want to try out the Vallejo Model Air metallics (typically you can find those at one of your local hobby stores). Their white/grey metals are really nice, close in quality to the Scale75 ones. The color choices for the yellow metals aren't that good, so that's where Scale75 really stands out.
