Busy Night's Painting
I decided to stop fiddling with her skin for a bit so I could judge what it looked like with more colour added to her. So here are some progress shots (again apologies for the image quality):

I'm pretty chuffed with how she's coming along. Especially since this is only the third time I'm attempting skin - and the first time on any real scale.
Personally I think she's already starting to look better than the original box art. Here's a reminder of what that looked like:

I like it a lot, the brush holds its point a lot better after use. Now I just need to get better at actually using it...

Hey oistene - good to see you stopping by.
That's the exact stuff I have and was talking about a few posts ago. It's quite good and the best part is that it's easy and quick to use. Plus no fumes. I have been trying to use it at the end of each painting session to give my brushes some extra love. Opinion here and on the Internet seems divided as to how often one should use it - I've seen some people who recommend using it every hour and others say after every couple of sessions.
I only clean my brushes after a project or 2, only when I say it's enough, then I give them a really good clean up. I have them for few years and they still good as new and my painting did not suffer because of that, so I chose to spend time painting rather then clean brushes

W&N series 7 and Raphael 8404. when you paint you need a big jar of "clean" water and rinse you brushes really well after each time you use them. Example: you put paint on your brush then you paint with it, when it's time to dip in paint again rinse well before, take excess water out and then dip in paint again, it's the region where the bristles get out of the ferule where all the hairs are tight that paint get stuck there and with time and accumulation will split your point.

Teronus - Yeah, I have to be more careful about getting paint near the ferrule. And I should probably rinse my brushes more often than I do. Hopefully my new brush investments will inspire me to be more vigilant.
Any thought on armour colours for my bust? The chainmail on her arm I'm intending to keep steel. But I think that some enameled armour (especially on the plates) would add some interest and colour to her. I'm just not sure what colour to do.
I was thinking of green with some blue tones. But to be fair I just like those colours which is not necessarily the best way to pick colours.

Thanks MAXXxxx - I'm blocking in some base coats so that I can see how it'll possibly come together. I didn't want to over highlight the skin, so I'm going to see how it looks with some more work done.

Thanks ten ball. Yeah, the skin needs quite a lot of work still. But I was keen to see some more colour on her - and after about 15 hours of only working on skin I needed a bit of a break. When I come back to the skin I'll keep your advice in mind.

I'm busy blocking in base colours at the moment - it's giving me a good idea of what's going on with her as a whole. These aren't the final colours - still need to do some metals and more work on the armour. But she's getting there.
