Excellent work as always Bailey.. I need to get a new historical to work on once I get the current projects finished. I'm looking at the Duel of Beasts from Scale75, but he's a big sucker.. Are you planning on coming down for Adepticon next year?

Yeah, that's a neat piece, definitely a good (but challenging) project. Would you do all the spots on the jaguar? Oh, and did you end up going to the NOVA Open this past weekend? I'm curious to hear how it was. I saw a few of the winning pieces on facebook (sci fi single, fantasy single, and sci-fi unit). But I haven't seen much in the way of official recaps.

Yup, I plan to be at Adepticon next year. Sounds like I may even be running a seminar or two while I'm there. This Northumbrian figure will most likely be my entry for historical single.

I think I would attempt the spots, they look like they are stippled on. I did go to NOVA this year. I flew over to my buddy's place in North Carolina and we drove to VA. It was an awesome time. I manged to take most of the Massive Voodoo classes. Roman and Raffa are simply awesome people. They covered a lot of stuff - OSL, focused area, metal and leather, some color theory and basing ideas. Even though I had some idea of what they were talking about, they explained it all in a way that reinforced those topics in my mind. They've basically re-energized my desire to paint, which is cool. It was good to see Shades, Mr. Justin and Caleb. I bumped into Jessica Rich as well and got some good feedback on my stuff in the case from her. Also met Melissa Powell and Shade's buddy Rich who were both finalists as well. My firefighter was the only piece that placed, but got 2nd place in the large historical category. I'm pretty happy about it. Melissa entered a stunning alternate sculpt of Verthandi, which got her gold in large fantasy. Caleb ran away with a gold, best in show and fan favorite.. he looked very happy. Over all, it was a great time..

I think that Roman and Raffa are coming back next year, I highly recommend that if you can swing it, go next year and take some of their classes. Now saying that, prolly just killed my placing chances in historical next year, meh.. oh well...

Thanks for the recap, Khonner. I've been following some of the comments on facebook and Roman has said that they definitely plan to be there again next year. I was sad I couldn't make it this year (would have been a lot easier when I actually lived near DC!), but there's a decent chance I'll be able to be there next year. NOVA has minimal restrictions on entries, doesn't matter if a piece has been shown or won elsewhere, so there's a lot I could bring. Of course it all has to fit in my carry on case for the flight... so that will keep me from going overboard.

Zab, I'm sure we could sneak you across the border and then get you on to one of our cheap US flights.

Nice, which part of NH? I lived in Hanover for 4 years.

Zab, you could just drive the whole way. It's only 8 hours give or take. It's a little on the long side, but at least with a car full of minis you wouldn't be lonely.

Yeah 8 hours is nothing, The lady Inqusitor and I have done vermont several times. The problem is I have to haul the family with me. 6 year olds suck at hardcore road trips :p

Is it bad my first thought was 'hey, you can't play that while you drive'? Then I was like, oh right, you meant for the kids.

Zab needs a family truckster... I can already hear the theme music.. :)

Nah just something to knock them all out while I drive like a maniac. Maybe booze for The Lady Inquisitor and Advil for The Agent of Chaos. Pop in the Johnny Cash and the road trip will be over in no time ;)

Ha! Never. After maintaining the septic system at the family cottage for 14 years and finally getting on city sewers I can honestly say I will never live in or drive anything that has one ever again. The horror stories I could tell you sir... Anyways, whatcha painting now Bailey?

I don't really want to take this conversation off topic, but I guess I could share what I was painting...

No new photos unfortunately. I've been working on his shoes and the straps around his knees. This weekend I'll get into the main part of the shield, so then I'll have some actual updates. Until then, I thought I might share this link. It's to a full (non-resized) image of the Northumbrian, which is roughly 10 times the size of the actual figure (at least on my screen). Maybe it's not of interest to anyone, but I know there are times when I'd really like to get a close view of figures, see how things really look. Its the same photo as my last post, just much much bigger so you can see the good and the bad

In related news, I've been watching Jason Martin paint up the same figure. He just posted to final version over on facebook. Take a look if you're interested. While I'm going for a winter look, I'd say his has a very strong spring feel to it.

And finally I thought I'd share another new kit from Michael Kontraros. I mentioned his Beauty and the Beast kit a little bit ago. Well, he's also coming out with a Werewolf Queen kit (sort of Red Riding Hood). The girls is 54mm and the werewolf is 75mm. I'm not crazy about the style for the werewolf... but it's still a neat kit and I thought some of you might be interested. Looks like it will be available at euro militaire and then to the general public in December.
