Looks like a good opportunity to knock out some quick minis while contemplating the next step in your own. Good luck.

Progress

So I figured it was time to take some pics and show people what I've been up to.

Disclaimer: I know that the photos aren't well lit or great quality, but it's late and they do still give you a general idea.

First up is my cat who has now got a face. :) I still need to do some tweaking on him, but I'm actually pretty happy with how the little guy is turning out.

And I have finished painting a Chisel. Without too much fussing around either! These Guild Ball minis are really gorgeous sculpts and they've been very well cast - I hardly had any cleanup to do on any of the three I'm painting.

I've also started working on a bust. *casts a glance at bgcdazzler, SaintToad, Digga and WGS* But I had issues with proportions and working out a way to stand it. So I'm on my fourth armature and attempt now. If this one makes it past the initial stages I'll post some pics.

So that's what I've been up to. :D

@codenamezero - Thanks. It's going to be an interesting project to sculpt I think. Hopefully I can get it to look at least a little bit like the image I have in my head.

@oistene - Thanks. :) It took me a couple of attempts to get her eye right. One day I hope that I'll be able to consistently do eyes on the first attempt - but as long as I can get them right eventually at the moment I'm happy.

What is the problem your having getting the bust to stand ?

It's been a bit of a hassle incorporating a stand into the bust - my first couple of attempts ended up making the chest either far too thick for the scale or everything a bit lopsided. I mainly need something for the bust to stand on while I'm working on it now in the early stages. As I build the torso up it will eventually be broad enough at the "waist" to incorporate a flat area to stand on.

Oww cute cat! Imo. his head is a little on the big side, but since I think it is a kitten and not a cat that could make sense...

That miniature you finished is nice! you've give her a nice character with just the face ^^

Looking forward that bust!!

Have you thought of baking a lump of Fimo as your base then starting your bust from the lump, this should give you something to hold while working on it, and also not have a problem with multiple bakes

Yay! Updates!

the cat looks really cute, well done on that. And I like the nice desaturated tones on the mini.

Ifit it helps I found it easier on my busts to make the face first, bake, do all the detailing, bake again, then make a simple stand and bake that. Then I could patch up all the detailing afterwards. Baking halfway through helps to keep the bits you like and then add new Fimo afterwards without smushing it up.

If you look at Sprogrot he started as just a head, then head and neck, and then I built the body up after they were baked. Much easier to handle.

Hope that helps!

@Maenas - :) He does need a little bit more work, but I'm glad you like him.

@WGS - Yeah I did try something similar to that. But I hadn't really been smart in paying attention to size and the proportions ended up being odd. I could've fixed it, but would've ended up using stacks of clay. So I scrapped that one and started over. If my most recent cunning plan doesn't work out I'll be trying it again.

@bgcdazzler - That does help thanks. :) I'll store that as a possible (but hopefully not needed this time) fifth option. Glad you like my kitty cat.

Lol. That would probably be a wise idea Sicks. :) But then, I have a whole host of miniatures I've bought with certain projects in mind, so who am I to judge? ;p

I'm glad you like how she turned out. She was a lot of fun to paint and while I did slightly more work than the original studio paintjobs (highlights, eyes etc.) I did manage to not fiddle too much and she still fits into the team quite nicely. Sakana will be my next project.
