mmmmm... that sounds like a plan... you both just need to ally with a shop and bring some more people.... and that's it. ^^

Viv la Painting renaissence!!! xD

Crystal brush votings and review of my favourites

I think there are some awesome entries this year, but somewhat I think last years were overall better... but that maybe just an effect of a second time voter on this contest ^^'

So I really setted up a high level of voting and what in reality I would have voted for a ten, for not voting tons of tens all over the place I just left the ten for those pieces that specially called my attention.

Will give my own Crystal brush results and see if I get any close to the real results once revealed!! ^^ Oh and a link to the CB Gallery so you can vote also if you haven't done so!

Busts:
Ancestor, Shield Maiden and Medieval tournament knight.
Do not really know the order because all three for me are ace thought I do not quite like the hair on the last one, not the freehand on the shield of the maiden.
Here I also like the sentinel bust (the one with just two branches at the back) which strongly reminds me of Sionid. Pity because I think the previous three are better but freehand on skin of Sentinel is awesome!!
Damn I just checked out that I completely forgot about Tywin which is also a strong contestant if not the winner!!
Winning this with such a hard contestants should be a dream.

Diorama:
Atonement, No hope, Guardians of the north
Specially guardians of the north looked to me like a scene cut out from a film. I also see the Peter pan scene as a winner though it's not very much of my taste, the work on it is terrific.
Atonement for me is the winner of this group.

Chibi:
My favourites here are Aftermidnight, Kitty and Ronin, also Jester as a runner up just for his eyes. But I specially like Aftermidnight because the ambience, colours and overall work. Remarking that Ronin is the best painted from all IMHO.

Large Scale:
Lot of different things here not sure if all the entries should go here, though it is a really hard group.
I find Black hole completely awesome, though paintbrush/freehand work on samurai is breathtaking. Garrosh is in the group of the best three for its colour management which I think is excellent and spectacular (there is no excellentacular word isn't it?). I could point out Grommash for the same reasons but I prefer the other three over this entry. Green goblin is also a great entry but I only like from him the main miniature and find the flying thing and thefumes a bit lacking (compared to the goblin himself of course). With all my respects for entries that I normally would gave a ten+ !!
Would like to mention also that for me the weakest entry here is the Asajj Ventress.

Historical:
My favourite entries here are Homecoming and Northumbrian, but also the sad king. Nothing else to comment here xP

Scifi Single:
My favourite here are Solitaire and the Aquiles with the raised sword, and I find the rest a step or two behind them being Aquila the closest.

Scifi Vehicle:
mmmm I should say that I don't have a favourite in this group however I liked the comical note on the "Mongo gets a Boo-boo" and that I cannot see a Scifi side of the "Yann's" one but this could be because I do not know the history behind....

Scifi Unit:
My favourites are the Spacewolves and the Ugyuging group, with a special mention for the banner of the palantine guard which I find to be of a higher quality than the miniatures.

Fantasy/steampunk single:
Alongside with the busts one I think this is one of the hardest groups, my favourites here are Goldfish dreams, The soulwitch and Savior forty years. Soulwitch must be a "Sionid" miniature for me, the colours are there as a proof!!! Cannot say which is my winner amongst them three ^^'

Fantasy/steampunk vehicle or monster:
All of the entries are awesome here but my favourite is the kraken, for the overall paintwork and for the dynamics on the base... since the author obtained the underwater feeling without any shine nor resin!! And yes I prefer it over that huge dragon even though I am a huge fan of dragons I do not like some parts of the diorama nor the dragon and specially the rider.

Fantasy/steampunk unit:
My favourites here are Blood reavers, Gold and Nurgle group. I chose gold because there is a lot of colours involved there and it is very original, but I do not really think they shouold have been entered into fantasy unit whereas they are much more into the historic group. The winner for me should be Blood reavers or Nurgle group....

ooh a shop you say? i have one that could work...
better get some armies painted up and enter tournaments too. gotta wow these gamers in one fell swoop then lead them to the light of showcase painting!

brilliant breakdown of the entries for the CB mate. i was surprised with the quality of the entries too, particularly considering the level of the painters here. i can't wait to see who the winners will be either!

High Elves BB team

Almost two months without posting anything on my own thread! How can that be possible? xD
Here you are what I have been working this last to weeks (soooo something between 25 and 32 hours of work)

This is a High elf Blood Bowl team from Black scorpion miniatures
Starting point (a pile of grey resin, with some casting errors mainly on faces and legs some legs were a bit warped, in fact I should have went back to the shop, but I did not) ;(

Airbrushed the primer white and black both from vallejo (surface primer)... Let's see if this kind of approach helps me to focus on painting better ^^

Another thing that I never did was painting skin and eyes first... let's break that rule! (not the first time that I do this, but I am starting to like this approach)
This are the colours I used, I admit that the brown leather is a bit too dark... but I am experimenting ^^

Colours in between pots are a mix of the ones at their side.

I wanted to do a different approach to the elves (not wanted blue, silver and white) so I got inspiration from old red workshop era and decided on reds and gold.
So here you have 5 layers of gold... 1.Necro gold 2. Necro gold+decayed metal (deepest shadows) 3.Elven gold 4.Elven gold+Trash metal 5.Elven gold++trash metal

Let's do some textiles... went for a cold grey-white approach and added a hint of the skin colour to bind the palette a bit:
Graphene gray for deepest shadows, antracite gray+pale skin+arctic blue for the lights

Some haircuts in between ^^ for these ones I used a warm dark grey palette:

More to come ;)

@BloodAsMedium Porcelain palette for the win! it's washable (you won't scratch it if you wash it) and does not contain plastic!! I use this one ore an aluminium one (It's harder to clean so I use it less, but it has bigger goblets). Glad you read those opinions on CB entries ^^
@Tero and Fluister, thank you for passing by ;)

Cool stuff, the red and gold gives them a very regal look which is ideal for elves and as pictures showing the box contents of the new blood bowl game have been going around it looks like these will be done at just the right time for the release :)

Nice, it may have been a while since your last post but you've certainly been busy. You're going to have a great looking team when you're done.

As Sicks said, love the simple, unified color scheme. especially like how the grays turned out. I feel like the gold could still use some sharper highlights, but at 5 layers already you're probably sick of painting gold. :)
