Yeah, great looking base. Best of luck with the painting!

If you're coming to the LAMS meeting, I hope you bring it along. I'll actually be there this month (looks like I'll be doing the demo too!).

Damn, that's too bad. I'll be doing a face painting demo. It'll be an abbreviated version of the Adepticon workshop (I've got 20-30 minutes, not two hours). I'll just be talking about shadow/highlight placement, show the colors I use, and then actually demo the glazing part since I think that's what the people at the meeting will be the least familiar with.

Sigh... I would really need to see that too lol...

I think it's about time I post a WIP update for my cowgirl piece... It isn't much, but I guess it's not bad for not painting for more than a year. Still much to do... Picture is kinda grainy...

C&C welcome :) Thanks!

The cowgirl base is looking awesome, Lost. The rocks really catch the eye, standing out very clearly from the (airbrushed? pigments?) earth surrounding them. I hope you similarly pick out the nice little ferns, mushrooms, etc. on there.

As always, you hit the nail right on the head Mr SaintToad :)

The dirt was airbrushed with different tones of brown and washed with a couple different oils. I still have to paint the other details and add grass, and other plants... I still have to paint the trees too lol...so much to do for such a small model.

Sounds fun. Will you be participating in any painting events or classes?

Unfortunately I didn't finish anything in time to enter in the competition, however, I am taking a ton of classes...hopefully I'll learn something lol...I'm just kinda hoping I learn how to paint LOL!

That base looks fantastic. Great shades on the rocks and it really leads the eye around looking for details

Thanks, Darthmarsh :) I'll be taking a class from 2 of the master base builders out there (Michael Proctor and Aaron Lovejoy) during ReaperCon, so hopefully I'll be able to apply some of what I learn to this project.

Can't wait to get back home and really start painting again!

Back from ReaperCon... so much good stuff out there..will post some pictures soon...I counted how many minis I got from the convention and final count was 31... I think I went a little overboard... just a little lol...

It's been a while since I posted anything, but I've been rather distracted with life. But how about a massive update? Let's begin...

First, a picture of the models I got recently. It's safe to say I've pretty much completed my model collection with these pieces. Minus one or two things, I think I more or less have what I want. But then again... I'm a model buying addict, so we'll see what happens lol... (click to enlarge pic)

I have to say, the quality of each model was astoundingly amazing! They were rather expensive pieces, but they were totally worth the money, especially the Draconnia minis.. Their new resin stuff is phenomenal. Volkan Lostblood is just bad ass, the Scael75 stuff is gloriously detailed, the nuts planet piece is just HILARIOUS and Lilith is just breathtaking... IMHO! :D Hopefully one day I'll be able to paint these minis the way they should be painted...

Next, here's a base I built at ReaperCon... I think I'm finally getting the hang of making dynamic bases that are interesting to the eye..critiques welcome!

Though I've been busy of late, I have not been idle. I got a late start on a friend's Christmas present..here's the base so far (WIP)... It's going to be another winter/wolf scene, but this time, WAY better than my previous work. Critiques always welcome!!

My base building work space...I've gone all natural lol

I'd like to give HonorGuard a shout out with this project, as his mastery of natural base building was very inspirational to me...he really is a base building genius. Thanks for all the inspiration!! :D

That's about it for now..I'll be working on this new base so I can finish it in time... I still have to finish the cowgirl too... so much to do, so little time...

Got some updates on my new base for my wolf... added some depth to the water area by carving up the wood base and did some milliput work..

View attachment 53656

Few tips I applied to this base that I recently learned:

1. I used a blister sponge to stamp the milliput to look like really fine sand.. it looks better compared to the scale of the model/scene
2. Test fit... I must have test fit the model and scenic elements at least a dozen times..definitely helped in reducing building errors
3. Use mistakes to your advantage... I had to add an extra bark rock to the left side because I had a lot of empty space between the bark chunk and the plasticard side. As a result, I have a little more space to apply additional scenic material...not necessarily a bad thing :)

Here's the final progress pic.

Honestly, I can't believe I made this thing... I actually like it!! lol It has got to be the coolest base I've made so far, and it's not even done lol... Enjoy!

Questions and critiques are welcome!
