Miniature Mentor

I did cancel my subscription some time ago and then I got a mail from them explaining that he was a little bit late since he was doing one other kickstarter and pointed me too that one. Can´t say that I am interested if he can´t give support to existing customer due to a "new" kickstarter and atleast tell people...

I would say that if you want to get some DVD today it is worth to buy the whole subscription as it is and download it and then cancel it. That is if you don't have the tutorials since before. Also recommend
https://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/dvds/painting-miniatures-with-jeremie-bonamant-teboul.html this DVD as it goes through all steps including the preparation (the english subtitles/voicews are a little lacking sometimes but still a very good DVD)

Also painting Buddha might be good, haven´t tried them and don't know so much but it do looks good.

Matt to bad that yours is not released since I would like to have that one :)

well well well.

just we were talking that there are no new releases. this is just in:
Alfonso Giraldes (cmon: Banshee) tutorial now available!!!
Miniature Mentor is proud to present Painting Faces and Clothing with two-time Slayer Sword winner Alfonso Giraldes. Alfonso demonstrates his incredible techniques on Raul Garcia Latorre's famous RAF Legend miniature.

Watch Alfonso employ a new technique called "cinematic basing" to impart a feeling of dramatic lighting that works from more than one angle. The most in-depth tutorial we've ever filmed on faces and clothing - not to be missed! Available now as an instant download - only $25.00 US.

so something new to buy tomorrow (not today, as with my connection I couldn't download it now)

edit:

roadmap for 2014-15 looks good too, wonder what'll be really released:

1. Sebastian Archer : The Anastyr Troll (cmon: automaton)
2. Sebastian Archer: Basing Volume 3 (The Severus Base)
3. Matt Cexwish - Making The Wired Piper Diorama (cmon: Matt Cexwish)
4. Mirko Cavalloni - The Dark Forest Minotaur (cmon: Mauganra)
5. Mirko Cavalloni - Basing Volume 4 (cmon: Mauganra)
6. The Complete Guide to Miniature Anatomy
7. Sculpting with Raul Garcia Latorre

I guess they must be reading this forum, lol

But have a look at their release schedule for 2013 - 2014:

http://www.planetfigure.com/threads...ases-alex-varela-abyssal-lord-tutorial.56314/

RoadMap 2013 - 2014 (update #4)

Below is a rough schedule for our 2013 - 2014 roadmap and our progress so far.
1. Alex Varela : Abbysal Lord (cmon: Iguazzu) - filmed
2. Matteo Murelli : Sven Hammerfaust (cmon: Mu) - filmed
3. Matteo Murelli : Basing Volume 2 - filmed
4. Alfonso Giraldes : RAF Legend (cmon: Banshee) - filmed
5. Sebastian Archer : The Art of Sebastian Archer (cmon: automaton) - filmed
6. Sebastian Archer: Basing Volume 3 - filmed
7. Matt Cexwish - Making Dioramas (cmon: Matt Cexwish) - filmed
8. Rick Lawler - Rust and Weathering - filming May 2013
9. Mirko Cavalloni - The Dark Forest (cmon: Mauganra) - Filming May 2013
10. The Complete Guide to Miniature Anatomy - 2013

They released Abysal Lord (04/13), Rust and Weathering (07/13), Basing part 2 (12/13), Sven (03/14) and RAF (06/14).

It seems to me they will be sticking to 4 releases/tutorials per year and the road map actually indicates a 2 (TWO) years road map. Hence, whilst the list look quite long/extensive, it is actually for a two years period, just something anyone considering subscription might want to reconsider.

Not quite, they're actually doing an indiegogo project right now for a sculpting and painting project. They've got a set of 5 basic body types that you can then sculpt over (plus video tutorials on how): https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/herosculpt-painting-superheroes/x/1657907#/

As for the tutorials on the site, they do update that once in a while. Perhaps with this new project they will start to put up content on a regular basis again. Perhaps that's an overly optimistic view, but who knows

We can hope!

I'm not sure I follow. You're hoping that the site is dead and they don't release more content? That's how the comment comes across. If so, then I don't understand the animosity towards miniature mentor. Or perhaps you meant you hope they will release more and it just wasn't phrased clearly.

hoping it's dead. Atacam had a really bad experience with them.

Even though I had a good exp, but the last few videos are pretty bad. I feel much more "let's make more money" than "let's show how it was done" (even more so, than expected).
The Diorama-1 shows basically how you glue corktiles on a frame... nowthing worth making a video of (also it was basically already shown in the Ben-Komets bases video)

As for the IGG campaign... I don't know. The theme is not for me, the figures the same. Half of the videos (sculpting) are beyond my abilities/interests... so won't pledge there.

Fair enough, I wasn't aware some people had such bad experiences with them. I haven't seen the newest set of videos (cancelled my subscription a few years back when they stopped putting out regular updates), but I was fairly happy with their early stuff.

I like the sculpts they've got for their indiegogo campaign. I'm not much of a sculptor, but I'd like to learn. I feel like I've got a better shot working on top of a base anatomy like they've got rather than starting from scratch. I know there are a few mannequin figures out there that can do the same thing, but they're all pretty generic. So getting 5 different body types to work with is a big plus in my book. The scale (~75mm) is also great for me since I prefer to work on that size of figure rather than the 28's. And, finally, the price is very good. $35 for five 75mm sculpts to work on is a better deal than other mannequin figures I've seen. The big question is can they deliver and what is the quality of the casting.

to be honest the $35 would be worth for the 2 videos (sculpt, paint) alone.
But Indiegogo... and no idea if they can really deliver. As for casting quality: I don't think it matters really, you'll cover 99% of them with details anyway.

i was thinking of getting the sculpting frightmare tutorials .... thoughts? or is there a better sculpting video

I think the Barbarian was better for general Fimo usage and Muscles
Then the Cowboy for clothes
And finally the frigthmare (armor was new, muscles and armature similar to the barbarian)

If sculpting with GS, then the Anime Girl, altough I think what's shown in the Barbarian-Cowboy is better.
5th Sculpting was Uncle Meat from JAG... It's worth seeing as he works completely differently from Aragorn Marks, but what I think it shows less than the frightmare.

----------

Or even better: 2nd DVD from figurines-tv.com . The language is mostly french, subtitles are really bad english, but it shows a LOT of things. (http://store.figurines-tv.com/artic...%2Cvol.2+Sculpture.Fran%E7ais+English-112.htm)

also here are 2 free ones, one from Allan Carrasco and one from Allan Ball. ( http://store.figurines-tv.com/Articles-VOD-27-61.htm )

and some more from them: http://kws.figurines-tv.com/index.php?mod=articles&action=tous&ref=2

i'd love to see a full sculpting tutorial (by the best for monsters IMHO), Daniel Cockersell but he sculpts in Castilene so not really useful for home hobby artists :)

Yeah I did have a really bad experience, and if it hadn't been for the Canadian bodies protecting their own I would have issued a claim against them.

They breached contract and then didn't want to know after as soon as I made it clear I wanted my money back.

I wouldn't touch them with a barge poll. I wouldn't have their content if it were offered for free.

You would do better joining say Ben Komets Patreon, only painting one worth joining as the others arent that good, IMO.

And if you want painting or sculpting videos there are far better quality ones out there than the MM rubbish!

lol.
I had your MM experience with PB, so even though Ben does his Patreon separetly, I won't support it.

Ooo, that's out of spite because of bad exp.
The 3 Aragorn ones(barbarian, clothes, frightmare) are pretty good.

Also of others... So far I found only the figurines-tv ones and one other (+YT/vimeo videos, but they were all much much worse, none worth keeping), and they are about the same or worse quality. Sooo which ones do you consider far better ones?

If you are new subscriber it is worth it, as they got loads of materials in it, albeit quite old.

I cancelled my subs 2 months ago or so, as they only released a single tutorial in the span of 12 months! No reason paying almost $100 for a single tutorial.

I want to support the community but experiences leave really bad taste for me, first MM, then Wargaming Zone (from the buypainted guy in YT). Typical scenario, they open a site want the community to support by subing to their site, then stop updating after a while or in case of MM only releasing a tutorial in 12 months!

well not really a problem, but annoyed nevertheless.

IGG Campaign they had (herosculpt) would have been funded, but they wanted more money ("doesn't go as good as planned") and cancelled it.
Looks like the offered money was not enough for their greed. No more support or money from me for them.
