Blackadder's Attempt To Build a Lucius Patten Imperator Titan 'Invictus'

Love all your projects.

I've been out of the hobby for almost ten years, but have periodically looked up your other titan build.
Recently found this build and binged it for 4 hours.

The short discussion about the hydraulics in the armpits has stuck with me.
If you're still looking for a function for these, I'd say they are shock damperers.
Imagine the weight of the weapons when this thing takes a step....

I can imagine a similar mechanism inside the shoulders to what you have as an elbow/wrist. (To move the arms up and down to install a different weapon)
I know you haven't physically build that (yet?), but the hydraulics make sense...

The author of the 3D images Joazzz2

https://www.deviantart.com/popular-all-time/?section=&global=1&q=joazzz2

did an outstanding job of rationalizing the various structures of an Emperor Titan which is why I chose to model my construction after his monumental effort. Until I saw his interpretation I had no inclination to attempt such a monstrosity.

The Main Weapon Yoke has been a source of frustration to me from the beginning however because the weapon training rotation should have been above the shoulder joint in my estimation not below as shown. The shoulder drum also inhibits the elevation and depression of the weapons. All in all the yoke while beautiful to the eye is inherently dysfunctional in its design. Especially when coupled with the FW Warlord swivel mount. I have decided to return to M. Joazzz's original design of a forked swivel yoke bracket.

Welcome aboard.

With such an outpouring of interest I had my son come over to help me assemble the two components.

The good news is the legs can support the weight of the upper torso. The bad news is it is at the moment rather top heavy.

All that will change when I install the rear components and the interior. The model right now is 46 inches tall assembled with I'm figuring another 10 inches more to be added to the superstructure.

The author to scale is 75 inches tall and the 28mm scale Skitarii and the two Space Marines are added for comparison

This is coming together very well, awesome work Blackadder.
Do you plan on weighting the feet for some more stability?

Just awesome work...fascinating process to get to this point as usual. I second Eki's painting comment as well....

Well I finally bit the bullet and purchased the single most expensive component(s) of this model. Namely the Sanctum and Basilicanum Cathedral pieces for the superstructure.

There may be those who think I've compromised but once I saw those statues I knew I had to incorporate them into the upper galleries of this Emperor Titan. It was the Sanctum that really put this over the top with the flying buttresses and sentry-like sculptures on the sides.

Needless to say I shall be putting my own spin on these prefabricated appurtenances and cannibalizing the spare bitz to decorate the rest of the Titan to conform to the highly detailed Castle Keep.

At least now it can be said that I have officially joined the ranks of the 40K Converters. :D

Okay the pieces look magnificent on your titan! This beast is just crazy good!

Hard To Find Time In the Summer:

With all the outdoor activity it's hard to knuckle down and make headway on these projects. Thanks for rainy days.....

Began the Superstructure Breast Works this week and finally managed to finalize the size of the Cathedral decking. I was off by about a centimeter overall but which will be easy to compensate for.

Below are two images from the basic half finished deck breast works....

Dribs and Drabs:

But in these Summer months it's hard to not take advantage of the wonderful pool weather. Much too nice to be indoors working on plastic models.

But here's a few images to tide over until the rains return.

First the superstructure deck now has forward battlements and the blocks are the beginnings of the center corner towers which do not seem to have any offensive capabilities.

Extending the deck allows for spacing the "Firestorm Redoubts" and also gives room for the fifteen meter tall statues on the Citadel base to be seen more clearly.

Finally;

It's all coming together just as if I actually had, Some kinda Plan. Ha!

Thanks for the reply.

Secondary Towers:

The more I study the image of the Emperor Deck the more detail stands out on this marvelous 3D image by Joazzz2. I was aware of the smaller towers on the superstructure deck but I did not perceive there were ten of them until this week.

What was going to be a minor exercise in tedium has suddenly become a major pain in the arse.

Doubly so because I really hate doing these tiny pyramidal end caps.

Rediscovering the Wheel:

Before I found the rear view of this version of Joazzz2's Emperor Titan I modeled certain components of the superstructure deck including the corner hanging bastions or turrets. I made only two and while quite successful on completion I'd forgotten how I actually built them :p

Hence the title of this entry.

When I obtained the back view I found I needed two more.

Moment of Truth

This is going to be Interesting.

I've learned a lot building this model.

It's the largest project I've ever tackled and I've had to innovate a lot of new techniques. It's been a year and a half since I made the first pair of turrets.

These new turrets so far are put the old ones to shame and it'll be interesting to see how they top out.

Looking good Blackadder!

Out of interest, you keep mentioning your main reference "Joazzz2's Emperor Titan" model, and I have found their deviantart page with some impressive scenery, but I can't find a link to any downloadable model. Did Joazzz2 publish the model at all, do you have a private copy, or are you only using the couple of renders available?

Can't wait to see those spires atop of the model...

There are only a few 3D images on deviant art and that is what I am going by. Mr Joaz promised a few 3D sketches a couple of years ago but so far he hasn't posted them. Another source of this 3D titan's images is the youtube video series. Helsreach episodes 1 thru 13 which in the last few episodes feature a short battle between the Emperor and a Mega Gargant. In Colour no less!

The Titan is introduced in episode five at the 3:30 minute mark https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6z0klMZ7r8M and gives a humorous exchange between the allied factions of the imperial forces. The entire series is well paced but there is far too few scenes displaying the Titan(s) throughout the fifteen episodes. As the series progresses the quality of the artwork improves greatly and the last few episodes are in colour.

Well, you ended up producing a phenomenal piece of work from very little info.
And thanks for introducing me to these videos, i am enjoying them way too much!
