Wording for Dice Re-rolls

I recently asked a question regarding Eddards NCU tokens and their use, which led to this query...

Whilst I totally accept that the intention of the rules is for dice re-rolls to only be allowed once, the rulebook states that a player can only be FORCED to re-roll dice once.

Does the 'forced' word need to be removed so that voluntary re-rolls are also clearly not allowed?

Don't believe so. The player making the re-roll is the same player who made the initial roll. So, your opponent is not rolling your dice to making your panic test for you, you are. Which you are not doing willingly.

Of course, dice can't roll themselves, so from their perspective they're always being forced. :wink:

"A die may only ever be re-rolled (or forced to be re-rolled) once by each player" may be clearer, but that's just my opinion. YMMV

But I am! The point regarding Eddard is that if I fail a test and use an Eddard token, which I then also fail, as the wording currently in the book reads, there's no reason why I can't use another token to roll the dice again, which I know is by no means the intention of the rule and has been clarified by Mr Shinall to that end.

My point is that, whilst we are all aware of the intention of the rule, the wording isn't right for this particular situation.

Indeed. But if you take 'forced' out just to make it applicable to one particular situation, it then is no longer "correct" for the much more common occurrences where you are forced to re-roll. The rule should be as broadly applicable as possible.
