1-Point-Votes - why do people do it?

1-Point-Votes on my Warp Spiders - why do people do it?

I really don't get why people do 1-point-votes on minis. I had a rating of 8.7 with 26 votes and with 27 votes it dropped to 8.4. That means someone voted 1 point on the minis. Why do people do that? I mean, if I don't like some minis, I don't vote on them. I'm rating on the paintjob and not on how good or bad some models play in a game or how much I like or dislike the faction. What grinds people's gears to do that? That's really depressing to see so much hate.

Or is there a specific reason to give only 1 point to the following minis? -> http://www.coolminiornot.com/391499

The long answer is: You posted to a gallery so you wanted to show off. Some people may dislike you or that particular model or paintjob. Or maybe they just wanted to troll because they can. You knew that things like this can happen even before submitting. It is not nice, but there is also no reason for lamenting. Isn't your time too precious to bother about people and stuff like that? Take a brush, pick a mini, on to the next one :fingers-crossed:

My best guess (aside from the fact that some people are just @$$ holes), is somebody thinks a score is too high and, instead of voting what they think it should be, they decide to 'fix' the problem by voting a 1. Basically they think their opinion is more important than all of the other people who have voted.

The good news is this works both ways. People who think a score is too low will sometimes vote higher than normal. Unfortunately an extra 1 typically has a much bigger impact on the score than an extra 10. If you get enough votes (I believe 50 or more), there is an algorithm that will factor out those ones. It's not immediate and it requires you get a lot of votes... but it's at least something the site is doing to deal with the problem.

There's a filter-algorithm? Wow. Is there official 'documentation about it somewhere? Sounds like a good idea after all - in any direction.
Too bad nowadays minis mostly get even above 30 votes. Most stuck at 26 or 27 votes unless they manage to get to the top last 7 days.

I guess the "I 'fix' the score by voting a 1" is indeed the most logical explanation.

Not that I'm aware of anything official, it's mostly been hinted at in comments by the moderators. The problem is, if they tell you exactly how it works, then you can figure out a way around it. But I have seen it function. I had one piece someone was sniping and each night the vote count would drop by 3 or 4 and the score would go back up. This went on for about a week or so before the troll finally got bored and moved on.

People voting 1's one pieces that clearly should be 7's, 8's, 9's, and 10's is just not in keeping with the spirit of this hobby and site. Whether you're an ace painter or a novice, almost everyone who posts here has put in a lot of time and effort into their pieces. It's a shame their are trolls out there, but do your best to ignore them. The majority of the people on this site are friendly and very helpful.

Yea, I'm here for a few years and I know people in the community are friendly and helpful. :) And I appreciate it alot. I guess it's more random people, non-members.

And you're right, telling how the magic works, would break it.

actually from my exp you don't need a lot of votes. it runs once a day or so and corrects all entries. Same thing is agains straigth 10-s too (unless the mini is in the 9+ range)

The bad news is people give 1s because they are jealous or insecure. The good news is you are good enough to be sniped :) I take it as a compliment. Also, turn off the scores - you don't need them. You are clearly talented.

It comes down to the fact that the voting system just doesn't work all that well anymore. Some bored people (kids mostly)will vote 1 on everything because it's fun to wind up those 'geeky miniature collectors' and they have nothing better to do with their time. Some people vote 6 for everything as a way of block voting. That'll drag your score down as well and won't be picked up by the system.

Kinda reminds me of PK's in online gaming. (people killers) I quit playing online games years ago because of this. The last game I played was Age of Empires. It took over 40 minutes for the players to agree on the rules, races, and setup. About 2 minutes after the game started (in a bronze age era) some idiot (using a hack) flew over in a space ship and dropped a nuclear bomb and killed the other three players. This is the same kind of person that goes through the gallery doling out 1's.
