Just came from a local GW where I asked the same question to the manager. Her answered was a bit different. She said it was a combination of things, but it came down to HQ was opening up too many stores and so couldn't staff it, plus insurance laws made it so they couldn't run it with volunteers, AND Unions made it even less attractive by forbidding staff to do ANYTHING with setup and tear down.

If you ask me, all of these could be solved with, guess what, money. This also doesn't explain the lack of GD Germany/France/Italy etc...Oh well. While GW don't make my favorite minis by a long shot, they just paint so damn well....
Please take what GW Staffers tell you about the company with a serious pinch of salt!
GW's shares took such a hit that their shareholders (Mostly insurance and pensions investments) started screaming and demanding blood. GW had to drop a lot of "Loss Leaders" such as Golden Deamon's and European HQ's to please them.
Plus in the UK a lot of Shops have had to drop down to 1 staff member, meaning only open five days a week.
Now take a look at how much they are throwing out as new releases in this last year. There's more new stuff come out in the last 12 months than in the previous 24. Strikes me as "Panic Production" in order to increase revenue.

Oh and the Union excuse, nah doesn't fly mate, Games Day was part of the Terms and Conditions same with 'Organised tournaments' staff expected to carry out reasonable requests to support the business and it's promotion.

looks good to me. the blending on the hair and beard is really cool. not sure what to suggest on the earing. the white gold suggestion seems a good one.

Cheers all. :)

Bloodfather - nice conversion but his head is a little small for the body, look forward to seeing him painted.

Nearly finished this one, another 2 1/2 to do.

I think red would be better than green. If only for (based on color wheel): you have blue clothes, gold (basically yellow) armor, so with red you'd get a good 3rd for a triad scheme.
Or just leave it blue. As long as the clothes are light blue and the gems a dark/darker blue it should look good.

edit:
looking at the pic again: aren't traditionally the gems painted upside down? (dark top with white glare, light bottom)

looks great man id keep the gems blue, more bright (red/green) colors in this picture might screw things up.

but yeah MaXXxxxx is correct, they are traditionally painted the other way around.

I think you've upped you game again! I love the contrast between the blue and the gold - and I like the blue gems.

looking at it again you have diverged from your cartoony style slightly the whole thing is far more French early rackham style. Very very nice just spent ten min looking at it!

That's an other level, your blue is really nice cool color contrasting your gold NMM! True for the gems I would reverse them, darker color on top... For the color you can try one in red then let's see!

Yes the light passes through the gem and makes the bottom appear lighter than the top. Also, the blue does look fine to me as far as color scheme-wise, but I think it needs a bit more highlighted blue in there. Looks like it goes from dark to mid tone with little to no light blue. Should make it bling a bit more. Also, and it may be this way, tough to see, but make sure the shadow curves quite a bit. An exaggerated curve. If your light source is offset to the left or right, make sure the curve moves to reflect this. Pun intended.
