Cheers all :)

Toned down the blues with a matt glaze with a tiny spot of black added. Added some edge highlights and based coated the brass in.
Im loving painting this, I keep running into problems and finding out ways (both with research and trial) of resolving them.

Anyone who has not painted a bust yet, trust me give it a go. You will find it really rewarding :)

It looks really good 10! I never tried a bust myself but I gather that painting a face is no easy task. I'll have to give it a try someday.

Excellent work. I know it's a pain to do but I think the black turned out great. I'm looking forward to the step by step on this guy.

excellently done. I like the skin tones,.. maybe just a hair too bright under the nose area though. Just my 2 cents,.. and far better then I could ever do, so take it with a grain of salt,.. and a squeeze of lemon,... and a shot of tequila,...

I am a big fan of Russian/Soviet history so this is cool as can be for me. That blue def needed a tone down and you gave it just the right touch. You said matt medium with a touch of black added? Was it like a 3:1 Matt to paint ratio? Thx and looks superb. Not sure if a bust is for me at this stage, but I like seeing you do them :)

Cheers all, Bloodfather it was a mix of watered down VMC matt medium with literally a spot of black in. Ive learned from doing the shaved head on my warrior monk to go real easy on dark glazing.\
It looks like theres nothing on there then suddenly it drys back !

That is really very well done indeed. I especially like the muted blacks on the coat, the gold buttons, the stripy T-shirt, the lettering on the hat, the hat, the eye's and the skin!

I wondered what you meant by having a ton of bullets to paint. Hell yeah, dude...hell yeah...

I know exactly what you mean by the black glaze suddenly creeping up on you and becoming too dark. When glazing my gold with black to build up the initial layers of shadow, I have been glazing with an extremely watered down chaos black. It's like it goes from zero to black hole in seconds. I got away from this by switching to VMC Smoke instead, but perhaps I'll try your watered down matt medium approach next time.

BTW, with the ammo belts, they look like some .30 cal rounds. The red tips are tracers and approx every 4th round is one. At least that's how we would get them. They look perfect though. Can I ask what you're using to make the brass look so real? Oh wait, there's an SBS I can look at...thx!!!

Tracers give the gunner an idea of where his rounds are impacting. Usually just used for machine guns, but many types of calibers include tracers as an option, including US Army standard issue rifles. I usually take a few rounds of tracer as the first 2-3 rounds of each magazine. That way I can use it to identify threats to my Privates, whom are generally slower at identifying or reacting to contact from known, likely, and suspected enemy firing positions. Basically "Shoot there, idiots."

of course, the enemy can originate the source of your firing from these tracers. But in all likelihood they see your muzzle flashing anyway, so it's overall an offensive advantage.

Not to take away from how well you have painted the ammo belts, i preferred the bust without! Seemed such a shame to cover up that pristine leather jacket, now you'll have to distress it with scratches etc, aargh, sacrilege, bad bullets..bad bad bullets
