My life is all upside down at the moment so my painting time is limited to short installments but at least I can keep painting.
To any beginners out there who want to improve you must paint, paint, paint, paint, paint, paint, paint, paint, paint, paint, paint, even if its for only 30 mins a day!
A friend suggested cards in the gobbo's hat (great idea) so....
I understand Lee, remember you need "Downtime" as well or you'll be no use for your missus.
Sometimes that means an hour alone out the house, sometimes time with a paintbrush.
Mike - good advice (the downtime lasted about 24 hours lol)
Well as some of you know my wife will be in hospital for about 5 days next week, so ive decided to squeeze a painting gift in between my other projects. Tiny mini from Reaper which im painting like a vampire.
(Fantastic quality sculpt with hardly no cleanup)
For some reason ive gone with the two hardest colours to paint (red / black) and I havent started with her face which is very rare for me. (Cape, hair still wip).
That's a nice really warm red there. Be sure to go cold on the flesh as a bit of colour contrast. I would also push the highlites a tad on the hips on the skirt similar in brightness to what you have achieved on the bodice. The black is primo. All in all lovely. Hmm how about going the whole hog and doing a proper little crackpot esque castle base? Turn a little project into something uber cool. This mini would suit that type of base to a tee.
Geez! Look at that freehand! All the best with your wife, make sure she follows doctors orders after release - no matter how bored she may be. I hate recovery from anything hospital related, myself.
That goblin is really good. I like the realistic leather effect, instead i'd push the contrast on the blade further. The vampiress' freehand is very elegant.
Khonner - Crackpot is the very talented painter also on the WIPS who is making a base at the moment.
Highlighted the reds as Andy suggested, also made her skin very pale to match the vampire look.
As i'm trying to imitate a base like what crackpots doing I had a go at a miniature painting. Its supposed to be Vlad the Impaler but I dont think ive caught his 'menice' lol. Will be doing a frame for it.
(note my deformed finger from the 'swiss army knife incident' last year!
Very good work there mate especially the painting which is fantastic considering the size ....don't hit me now but i didnt know vlad the impaler was related to Terry-Thomas or maybe a bad moustache day Bruce Forsyth............runs giggling for cover
G'day ten,
Stracken looks awesome. I'm interested to see how you handle the camo, I tried it once on a unit, near drove myself mad. The gobbo and vampire are great, that red is fantastic.
10 ball, crackin work there Lee, especially the Vlad Tepes portrait.
One minor thing the vampires not Reaper, she was sculpted by Steve Buddle for his SPYGLASS range and I believe is now available through Model Display Products, War Griffon Miniatures.
