Right the guessing over, the mini is the fisherman from Guild of Harmony. I took Mikes advice and have been mini hunting on their website.

Im painting this as a vignette for the comp thats Skel blog 5th Dimension is running - http://5-th-dimension.blogspot.se/2014/06/the-5th-dimensions-first-painting.html

The basis of the story is that its a hidden pool that the fisherman's father has taken him to since he was a child. Its a secret place that none of the other villages know about.

Ive added more leaves hanging over at the top to try and give a more realistic look, painting the foreground leaves a lighter green than the back to try and give depth.

Very nice looking figure and the tree part became much better with the light and dark colours.

Looks super our kid! Maybe trim the leaves back a bit on the bottom? and put a little static grass tufts instead?

tried it mucka - 11.34pm last night grass tufts went on - 11.58pm grass tufts took off

Didnt look right.

I really like this! I wasn't 100% sure at first but it's come together as you've added more foliage and the mini is perfect.

Maybe try some taller, reed-like grass? Or maybe some cat tails?

The extra leaves and different colors really help sell that the bamboo is really supposed to be bamboo. Lovin' the little details...fish, froggie, lily pads,birdie, red flowers, murky water....hell i like it all so far.
